I trade Euro,Cable and EJ,because they "go" with my system very nice.
I could trade more pairs,but I feel like these is enough.
I was thinking of adding Kiwi,Loonie and Aussie too...
What do you think about it?Should I trade more pairs,like 5-6 pairs,or is this enough?

Btw,what pairs do you trade and why?

Hi Alex,
Here's a grid I put together today with data I got from http://www.mataf.net/en/analysis-volatility.htm.

I chose the ten currencies offered by FX Solutions. I then sorted them separately by 1day, 5day, 10day and 20day. I then color coded each pair to show how they re-arrange themselves over longer time periods. Since volatility is related to profitability, it becomes apparent that the most volatile pair is GBP-USD, and the least volatile pair is the EUR-GBP.

I think which currencies a person trades depends on the system they are using as different systems could work better with different currencies.

For example, looking at Diallist fantastic chart, it would appear the gpbusd holds all the cards, but what it doesn't tell you is how the volatility arrives. In one particular variation in forward testing my system, gbpusd has given 0 wins and 7 losses as compared to say audusd which has given 4 wins and 6 losses.

So either gpbusd is not suitable for that variation or my forward testing is so off beam that the results are just random

I'm forward testing 8 currencies from fxsol (as given above by Diallist, just not eurchf and eurgbp because at initial glance 6 wks ago, I didn't think I could make them profitable), but I will forward test those two later.

I trade all, it is not reccomended to choose only one or two pair, Because when your favourite pair is not moving there must be other who can be traded well. My lovely pairs are: AUD/USD, NZD/USD, EUR/JPY, EUR/USD, USD/CHF (however USD/CHF is like EUR/USD carve inverted), I very rarely trade GBP, because it has killing range and I do not like stop losses to place far. Also it requires more margin to open position rather than NZD or AUD, almost three times. I have traded every pair that allows my broker.

I trade the EUR/USD, GBP/USD, USD/CAD and the USD/JPY. I just read an article in Currency Trader magazine about different pairs having different personalities. To sum it up the USD/JPY usually sticks to its support and resistance. Most traders who trade the yen use Ichimoku. The GBP/USD usually will break through support and resistance and then pullback. I like to trade all major currencies which give me a greater chance of success.

I trade the EUR/USD, USD/JPY, USD/CHF and was skeptical about the GBP/USD at the beginning but included it now in my trading since 1 profitable trade in the cable can wipe out up to 3 moderate losses and still make a decent profit if and only if you are correct in determining the pair direction.

For example, after the late run up in the GBP/USD which sent it to the 1.8400-1.8500 levels I believe that shorting at the top levels near the 1.8500 is wise enough, so I shorted at 1.8476 and I am expecting the pullback to bring it back to 1.8333. That's around 150 pips of profit on a pullback!!!

Well, all what I can say, "For every action, there must be a re-action, opposite in direction and equal in magnitude." That's Newtons' third law. In stocks, currencies and other financial instruments, the statement equal in magnitude does not mean that we should go back to where we started the move. It means that we will go back where supply and demand are equal again.

There is always pullbacks, they just differ in magnitude and in the time period. Strong moves like the one which ended by the end of last week suggests a stronger pullback and a longer one in time frame.

I will tell you something very nice I noticed about pullbacks and corrections. If the market made 3 rallies and established 3 new highs and is now making a base after the 3rd rally, measure the time ellapsed between the end of the 2nd rally and the start of the 3rd rally. If the market fails to initiate a 4th rally after the end of the 3rd one in less than this period and moreover it creates a double top while trying, then high probability of a pullback occurs.

My trade is up 92 pips for now

I trade only EURO/USD & USD/JPY because it's much easier to watch two currency pairs than three or four.So I have plenty of time to observe and analyze the behavior of these two currency pairs.As far as the GBP/USD is too risky!!!!!
Too bad GBP/USD just reached the 1.8330 pre-defined profit target during the Asian session yesterday, but I was caught with one of my stops and my trade was closed for an anemic 25 pips profit rather than the 150 pips target profit.

Looks like I need to practice stops more

I think the real question to ask is if you traded it correctly?

If you traded it correctly for 25pips, then I think it is better than if you broke your rules, got lucky, and made 150pts because next time the market will have its revenge and punish you for not following your rules!

It was probably just a teaser this time to make you break your own rules next time

Well, I didn't break my rules and I will try my best not to break them next time or any coming time...

It's just the placement of the stop itself, it's more of an art than a science I believe...I moved my stop in this trade 3 times, 2 of them were exactly correct, but I got trapped on the 3rd one...I am not sad, I am happy that I made a profit in this slow week

You are probably 100% right about the teaser thing One need to be aware of the hundreds of traps out there..

In truth, it really does not matter as long as you pick a "major" pair - one of the big six, IMO.

Pick a pair (I use EURUSD because I like the $1 payout on the counter currency) and then study the raw data of that pair until you can recognize patterns of movement over time that are "routine" and "common". Then concern yourself with building systems and the like.

No system in the world is worth its weight in salt, if the data of the pair won't support it. Thank about that for a while until it sinks in real deep.

The data has to be of a certain structure and maintain a certain behavior, before building rules around that data makes any sense. Spend more time with the data and less time with trading strategies or system building. If you do this right, you will find that you don't even need a trading "system" to reach a certain level of consistency in the Forex.

Trading systems are not for making money. You don't need a "system" to make money in the Forex. Trading systems are designed to give you your life back, so that you are not in front of your computer screen every trade pulling your hair out and drinking antacid by the bottle.
IMO,

pick a couple or three pairs to know intimately. Some like to have at least a currency pair that does not have the USD as a base or cross. [e.g. EUR/JPY or EUR/GBP]. The main key is intimacy..... especially for those support & resistance areas.
in my opinion, if it can make you happy, do it.
EUR/USD - because I'm new to forex so finding my feet with what seems to be the most popular currency pair!

I trade gold cause I hate it lol. I also trade uc, eu, au cause in 2019 we have a thing called volume rebates.
