This system looks idiotic lol

We have seen that now,but i have now 7 closes at 50 pips at 0.02 and 0.03 lots with 7-12 pairs testing and changing pairs with 1.47% Max DD that measn with 50 pips basket stoploss the stop would not be hit once because half pairs had 0.02 and half 0.03 and the baskets between 2-5 pairs in trade so the EA is greate so far in taking trades i have ended up on 11 pairs and 25/75 and are to go live with 0.01 lots just to see how it does this week with my pairs and a cutoff at 1.5% was doing 0.8% cutoff so 2 closes and one loss would made profit,but i am to try and give it some room my account is 1150 dollars so a 1.5% cuttoff is 170 pips give ore take and almost all trades have gone straight into profit after the OVB/OVS and then a insidebar to confirm its going into reversal...Of course it doesnt do that everytime thats why we trade baskets so the other non correalating pairs will make up for DD on one pairs until it turns and grids come into work....I will post my results on Friday night..I have only trded it 8 days so results can be just luck,but i dont think so..


EDIT:I am sorry 6 closes and one closed manually at 40 pips because the market hasnt moved at all tonigh on AU and EU that i had trades on so i took profit

with 3 possisions all in profit..

Sorry if this was answered already, but I didn't see it reading through the thread; I'm still a bit confused. Does that mean when forward testing/trading live, we should leave the "close by pips profits" option set to false and allow the "close all" EA to manage the profit taking? Or should we still have the "close by pips profit" set to true and 50? Or does that override the "close all" EA?

Based on my experience you are right. All the fiddling with grid distance values and hedges did not work out long term for me. The focus should NOT be the grid itself, as it is only a tool. The edge has to be something else. You have to find something "unique", not just setting up a random grid on a random pair and hope with the correct grid settings you are going to beat the market.

Unfortunately I am not sharing details of my own coded strategies. So I cannot go more into detail here sadly. I just wanted to motivate, especially in times of severe drawdowns, where it is hard to withstand all the hate and naysaying.

Well everyone,

I had to accept the loss at about 60% because of me taking double my recommended risk on my personal account. I would have left these trades in if I were using the risk I recommended to everybody else. Anyway, greed did get in the way of me again here. I really didn't want to lose my entire account by holding at this risk level. I did think the chance of a bigger bounce at 1.70 on the GBPCAD was likely but my account would be VERY close to margin call at that point.

I will be keeping the TE posted here as I do have a plan...

I will be giving a youtube video update on Wednesday. Also, I will be releasing new settings that include a % SL soon for the EA. This will insure the safety of the strategy over the long-term.

Meanwhile...let the trolling begin as I know it's coming...lol

Keep in mind, the strategy still remains in tact for those using the recommended settings!
0.01 lots GBPCAD for every $1000 in the account.
0.02 lots NZDCAD AUDCAD for every $1000 in the account.

I'm still hanging in there with my live account. So far i'm at a 18%DD so i'm pretty sure it will recover eventually.
Perhaps its even better if it dips a bit more since that allows a quicker recovery in the end

Why don't you learn from that disaster? There are not any parameters out in this world that make a "never loosing" EA from this Grid systems because it isn't based on a winning strategy that can run automatically in any market conditions. Furthermore a real winning system ALLWAYS has to have a STOPLOSS set. And once you would have a winning strategy then you better might increase the lotsize of the coming trades in conjunction with an preset capital risk limit. Then the lotsize will decrease again for the period of loss to keep your defined risk level. You see how it works on the screenshot. (stoploss = 40 Pips, risk = 2%, max. positions open = 1)

one thought to add,
have to include a way to limit the drawdown, by number of entries, or more likely a %loss cut off, to ensure that the not that frequent but extreme events dont clean the account out.
often an EA is a good idea, for not judging a trade, not closing early, just execute a (supposedly optimal) trade.
unfortunate, the same EA has a fallacy lie in this very strength, for not be able to judge when not to take a trade, or cut off losses, bcos some larger than usual event ( like this current Brexit uncertainty).
thus i think it is a must to include a cut off; it is just as important as the right starting point of the grid, ie. some decent high probability first entry.
on that once can tweak the criterias. just as well as to use the backtest to get a ballpark number where to draw a line in the sand, and cut losses.
( i think even a high risk system that should be something no more than 25-30% max, leaving a decent chance for recovery).

Just here to share my thoughts and add a bit of an input, please note before the trolls hit me up,
I have been trading for over a decade, I know exactly what I am about to share would be highly valuable and should be considered looking into by the coder of this EA.

Please look at my attached chart below and this is using one of the entries from your EA.

You have totally missed how an inside bar should be traded, which is in direction to its breakout,
now it is difficult to achieve this sort of entry alone without alot of false entries if trying to automate it,
so I applaud the use of the RMI, which I do use also, but you have mixed it all up.

Chart Below. RMI below 30 with an inside bar breakout below is a perfect SELL entry, so I think you should switch your trading entry rules.
Please if you do not understand this concept I can go more in dept if I have the time. just thought i'd share this.
If all trades opened have been taken into opposite direction, you would not have any silly draw down.
So I advice try changing entry rules to opposite directions, its as simple as that.
I'm sure the smart guys would also try to code this for themselves.

In general, it's like this: beginners find martingale great, think they've found ideas that no one else has and it looks so perfect. Of course, this only happens to beginners who do not make the effort to learn the basics of trading first. And are honest, almost all of us were at this point that we thought so and made the same mistakes (act too early, too little math and learn basics) ... it's just the question of whether we are on this point can not outgrow and use no more than 1 year with something simple (lifetime does not give back to anyone).

martingale / grid systems (without relatively tight SL) are always a highly suboptimal version of a trading system, and are only practiced by beginners (even if they think they are not, they are and will mostly stay long because of themselves can hardly estimate) or preferred by traders who have little idea of a good entry and mathematics, and therefore prefer to trade this severely disadvantaged system and learn how it will someday be right or even if they have bad luck with it and they are usually the never again can leave the area of the starter.

So some things as an incentive, maybe it helps one or the other here, who is ready to assess himself and do what is necessary:

1) learn the basics of mathematics / statistics and trading (previously no trading account is involved!) - this should save you several thousand or ten thousand dollars (or more if you start with a high capital )... learn what are important metrics (and these are totally few) and what are totally unimportant (like balance, adding pips, win / loss ratio, ....) ... with good trading math and trading basics you should be able to quickly learn what system fraud is , which pointless and which only go in the demo account with gigantic profits

2) fixed SL and TP are usually much worse than the current market adapted

3) A strategy should produce extremely good results in the backtest without optimizing: factor 5-10 / 1 at profit / drawdown per year should be considered a target ..... because: especially if you use MT4 considering you have many mistakes in it (only bid prices, extreme spread before and after we and in news lead to win the often are not there or to lose the actually much larger, wrong quotes in the history, no tick data but only 1min) and these must in the real trade still be compensable

4) Backtests a long time ago are unimportant (except for long-term strategies), as there were other spreads that always let the short-term trade win extremely. If you test a scalper at the current spreads back then you have astronomical gains, but they were never there.

5)If an SL is right in a strategy, that means that after the point, you will lose significantly more than you have a chance to win. which means nothing else than that you have a good start again (TP and SL would be depending on strategy to determine and super easy to calculate on a changed SL / TP ratio of the origin strategy) .... is an entry here is not correct, would the SL simply wrongly chosen!... and this is only Sl of first trade, imagine next one SL is entry again and so on ... needs expanding program (or strategy) by extrem math calculation in a kind of a circle (but thats something from trading level 3 and later , thats for experts to make good calculation of big value....)
and think about... same what i tell here about SL is same for TP! when TP is correct, then a new order in opposite direction is a winner, or TP was not in correct point. same calculation happen like in SL part.... but this all is expert calculations, dont waste time on this when not finished with the basics! all step by step! it must be a logical chain of trades produced by correct or incorrect SL/TP on the end of your mastering trading.... of course i dont speak about SL und TP you did take because there are news coming and the result is not to calculate and so you want go outside the market and be flat!!

6) If a martingale strategy should win more than the whole amount at the first signal, it means that you have got wrong entries and often runs into the minus before the course turns .. so you just have to find out (which is incredibly easy to program is!), at which point of the subsequent purchase it is worth the whole amount to invest, and only then there to trade (always provided there is a SL, if there is no one uses the margin call as SL to calculate) ... so can you can always create better strategies with less drawdown and more profit ... that will not be extremely good against normal strategies with a good entry signal, but much better what martingale can deliver .... by the way, this variant is one of the 6 tests , which makes every good programmer go through his programs, and find out if his entries are relatively optimal or have potential for improvement, because it pays off buy more than directly whole amount at the first signal, then the entry is still expandable ... but that leads now too far, because I imagine things here just go further than the basics (but still far below high levels). .. and only one learning step by step brings the understanding and very important the acceptance that you think about it and understand why that is right.

there is so much more ... but as a short introduction it should be enough what you should learn once you have learned the basics

You say that the RMI indicator below 30 points to an opportunity to sell. Isn't it the exact opposite? That the market is oversold, and more likely to turn?

This is wrong the entrys are greate the reason the GCAD didnt work was alone the brexit noice here is 52 entrys ore possisions off This EA on different non correalating pairs and max DD 1.47%...I am not sure how many baskets in total but its around 10-12 somewhere i just counted last week.So the after a "big" move up ore down and then insidebar saying reversal may be just around the corner..

Using overbought/oversold levels on oscillators (like RSI or Stochastic or RMI in this case) does not work on Forex for trading REVERSALS. These type of indicators were created long time ago for trading Stocks. Forex is NOT stocks. When FX market is trending like now on GBP you will get hammered trading reversals from overbought/oversold levels. Add grid to it and you have disaster waiting. Many traders tried to figure out how to create great strategy to do that. I haven't seen anyone succeed yet long term.

If you will find a way how to avoid 20% or even larger drawdowns on one single grid trade trading reversals with oscillators then you'll be probably first one. You might have a shot here but we will have to see. I'll be definitely watching this space.

There are already many interesting suggestions on this thread. So it looks like some work is needed here to improve this EA.
Me personally, I do not believe in 100% automatic EAs. And I think even banks manually adjust their EAs every day for market conditions.

I heard many professional traders say this. Market can stay overbought/oversold much longer than you can stay solvent with your account.

Using only overbought/oversold + inside bar is not strong enough to find high probability reversals.
Maybe RMI is better than RSI and will make better results but it is still high risk and low probability long term.
I like all backtests and they look nice but they will not tell you that current economic situation is unique. There is NOT one example from the past. In this case history does not repeat. I don't want to go in details of fundamentals/economy situation here. In the last year or two I've seen many traders with accounts with 10 year backtests and years of live trading with huge profits and great equity curves FAIL. They started having over double of maximum historic drawdowns. Many strategies just failed. And they were NOT grids or martingale but strategies with SL and strict risk management.

I hope you will be exception and will manage to come out victorious. But beginner traders who have no idea what they are doing and how markets function should be very careful using grid without SL. Use only money you can lose and please do NOT use brokers without negative balance protection. You might lose much much more than you planned.

Wish you all the best with this EA. Happy to see that you are looking to implement SL. Market volatility changes (can see that on daily ATR) so do you think that fixed SL (eg. 50 or 75 pips) is a good idea? Think about it.

What kind of system/EA are you trading now Cubby i can see you have one buy and one sell with 10 pips TP in different directions are you doing grids at 10 pips with 10 pips TP on each possision ore what???

if you want to trade a counter trend grid you cannot put up a 20 pips grid but a 50 or better 100 pip grid, with low leverage and foresight, with some foundamental convinction imho...
