Most communication problems on FF seems happen because people use words like,big,huge.small etc etc and don't use numbers.
Now when they told us,they using 200 even 500 lots, wow,what can I say? They out of my league of course.
I'm really just "small" time player , so leverage is for me crucial. You know,like after running my own business for decades and finally selling it,I'm treating trading like business a good business loans always helped .

the broker is saying, if you trade bigger positions, the broker will reduce the leverage thus increasing the MMR.
in other words, trader, we will allow you to use 500 as leverage, thus needing low MMR...but if you trade 500 lots, your leverage will be reduced based on tier, thus needing more margin dollars to be locked.

brokers can set the parameters of Leverage and MMR needed based on their risk tolerance and within the regulatory rules.

Tradersway does the same based on capital $$.
you can 1:1000 upto 999 dollars.
once you are above 1000$ in capital, your leverage is reduced to 1:500; so does MMR.
it keeps going like this...and finally tradersway puts you on 1:100 leverage.

btw, it seems like you know nothing about trading.
my advice is stop trading; learn and then come and trade, share your valuable thoughts.

now all you are doing is, exposing how stupid you are.

Just Because you have spent your entire trading experience in the retail tier, doesn't imply a hard ratio exists. All the broker advertising is geared for the retail crowd. Think for a monent, would you charge everyone the same rate, what if I came to you and asked you to assume a billion in risk, would you still only charge me 4 percent? Why do you think brokers have trade size limits?

Your statement is not entirely correct. If you have been trading a long time with OANDA and you are considered a low risk trader the firm will offer you professional status so all instruments will have the same margin of 100 to 1 as shown here for the DAX.

It looks like that the picture you posted comes from a stock brokers that offers future contracts. I know that some forex brokers will increase the leverage of traders in accordance with the amount of equity that a trader has in his account but it's not always the case. Most forex brokers will not allow traders to trade more than 40-50 lots in one trade while others, like OANDA, will limit the amount per trade; in that case $10 million.

getting pro status is good; but in USA that is not possible to have 1:100; the max allowed is 1:50.
btw, the issue is not pro or retail; the issue is once you got a leverage assigned for your account, the margin locked is based on that.

if you have 1:100 as leverage, what happens to margin? is it going down or going up compared to what it used to be for 1:50?

FXCM also has nice Q&A. I can not believe traders with red status are here without the understanding of leverage & margin required.

I know I'm American but don't live in USA. Actually if I lived in the USA I would not be allowed to trade CFDs as seen in the picture below. With 1:50 leverage the margin for the DAX would double from $13,655 to $27,310. I think OANDA's leverage by instrument is based on volatility risks. The attached indicator shows the margin for the leverage of the instrument traded and also the margin for the account. This helps choosing lot size.
