Born in 1911 (so in his forties at this time) Big Joe Turner had played in Count Basie and Duke Ellington’s jazz bands earlier.
But it was this song that put Big Joe on the map in the emerging R&B / pre-Rock era.
Subsequent artists changed the words a bit but Big Joe recorded it with the original risqué (for the time) -
“well you wear those dresses, the sun comes shinin' through, I can't believe my eyes, all that mess belongs to you”
