Ratios & Harmonics: a Different Way to Trade

Slightly frustrating today. My initial bias was correct.

Last year around this time, you seemed unstoppable. Are you doing anything different from then up until now?

Nope same plan. And I’m too stubborn to make adjustments. If it were easy everybody would do it. In fact if there were any strategies that didn’t have draw downs everybody would trade it. If you don’t pay the market back a couple months out of the year, you won’t have anyone to take money from for the other 8-9 months of the year. Don’t worry I’m trading pretty conservatively until conditions change but I will trade everyday regardless of the draw down. My goal in posting my misery everyday is to show the long term results in sticking with a good plan. None of that is meant to say I like it. I don’t.

In my commitment to remain transparent, I post my screenshot from Friday. Felt like I was on the wrong side of the market all day. Unfortunately I have to accept that days like this will happen regularly.

I've decided to detail my reasons for entering and managing each trade in this post rather than on the screenshot, as it would quickly become too cluttered.

Trade 1: My initial bias was bearish. Bulls had crazy upward momentum in the overnight session but we had extended past the 1:1 into an area of structure and I believed price was exhausted. I took a short after the first bearish swing and failed NSH, and in retrospect my entry was quite accurate. Bears struggled to work their way downward, so I protected the trade early, fearing that my analysis had been incorrect. Taken out for BE.

Trade 2: I took a long here for no apparent reason. Bulls were clearly having trouble and I should have taken profit or at the very least moved to BE, but alas I allowed price to hit my stop.

Price then proceeded to freefall, which activated my emotions, as now I felt as though I had missed out. In my mind I was saying "See you should have just stayed in your first trade." In these instances when emotions enter it is always best to close your workspace and walk away for the day. Instead I kept trading and added 2 additional losses to the day.

Trade 3: I actually feel good about this trade. Bears had reached what felt like an exhaustion point. Bulls came in with some good strength. The market just decided to move lower. No problem.

Trade 4: This is where the problem came in. For some reason I then decided to get short, even though it was clear that this was a classic bottoming/exhaustion area. What would have made more sense would be to get long here. Emotions were fully in play at this point and my decision making was cloudy to say the least.

Trade 5: Another entry I felt good about. I waited for price to return to a pre-identified area of structure, and then entered. Price meandered sideways for a while and I had to close the trade around BE at 2:30 because I had to leave for the night job.

Overall, very glad to experience a demoralizing day like this while I am still with trading tiny size. All of these lessons are very cheap ones to learn now.

March was a very tough month to trade. I admire your transparency. You are on the right track and you WILL be successful. Keep doing what you are doing...

First trade were the three shorts and three covers. Second trade was the 4th short and 4th cover. I was try to trade the breakout and price decided to hold. It isn't really part of my trade plan so I should just slap myself and not take rogue trades.

I am going to be taking some trades on other strategies on the same account as my intraday Swing Account for a while which may make my charts more confusing. I'll try my best to identify the different strategies on the chart though.

1x S/R (support/resistance) trade held over from yesterday = +108
1x S/R today for +5

Re-entered the S/R long and price finally did its thing, almost 2R

Have you looked at the ES for the S/R strategy?

IMO it reacts a lot more precise to strong supply and demand (support/resistance if you prefer those words) ... and with the better precision you can "milk" the R:R a lot more...

The third trade was a short after a 1:1 correction into the 38.2 retracement. Technically an SOS3, but stop placement is an issue. Tough call on that one.

Your first two trades are against they expectation. Your third trade is good but you are going to break even too fast. On the chart, Yellow line main swing, square green bullish market, square red bearish market. Blue line, where the expectation fail.
