Thinking position sizing for my algo now and I have always had a rule to never increase or decrease position size during my accounting period (which was weekly). With NQ being Daily, do you think not altering position size will affect your tilting situation? I am also curious if you kept your position size the same, how will it affect your over all profitability and recovery cycle?

Which one would you prefer:

  1. 250T daily target resulting in 3 wins out of 5 days/week with 300T as Daily SL?
  2. 100T daily target resulting in 4 or 5 wins/week with 300T as Daily SL?
  3. Daily target of 1x NYSE range in Ticks with 0.5x daily loss but inconsistent/unpredictable/unreliable daily income but superior weekly/monthly returns?
  4. OR 90%winrate of 20Ticks/day (I would say 98% with some 200-300T floating loss)

day = nyse session only for me

I have kept it pretty much the same since december. I learned the hard way that you do not want to increase size so quickly in this volatile market (even though it's so tempting). I was basically increasing it every 3rd profitable day. One bad day and i lost 20-30%. So now I'm keeping my size relatively constant until i hit my equity milestones. I would reduce it if i get hit by a really bad day or tilt day (hopefully never again) where i lose 20% of my account.

option 1- is tough to do since i'm not a good bottom/top picker. i usually catch the middle range
option 2-this would be more align with how i trade. i want to see 80% profitable days in a month. But i don't use fixed targets/stops
option 3-this is also tough to do. i only do 20% of NYSE range (also 20% of asian range) which comes out to 10-15% of ATR
option 4-hell no

so really it's #2 and #3 combined.

Personally, I wouldn’t trade any of these four scenarios.

Question, am curious about the blowup level in ticks on day one, ballpark figure is fine ? Are we talking 2000, 5000, or more like 12,000 ticks before the account is margined?

Not sure yet as I literally only today started thinking about position/money mgmt as part of modeling. I am thinking around 1000Ticks or 20% account DD is the absolute catastrophic stoptrading and get back to the drawing board. Daily SL and TP will vary based on OC (or session) range and which strategy will get triggered under which market condition. I have TF, CTF, Reversion(tops/bottoms) and bounce/Pullback. I got rid of counter trend for NQ but it is there to use on ES or other instruments down the road. I am curious how much is your daily target for NQ?

EDIT: I reread your post and overlooked "day one". Around 10K-50K is my threshold but regardless, day one and thru the first month, it will be only one contract :-

Agree...I will go that route only after 3 months of live stats. I only got two days of live trading under by belt thus far. For now, it will have to be just one contract with an increase at every 10%-20% equity growth.

why? what do you want to know? i think i can get this using sierra. jourlnalytix has the MFE/MAE count for each trade..

i vary my bet sizes. i think that misses the information if i just do ticks per trade right?

today was legit losing session per rules. No tilt, i just executed. got chopped up left and right and i lost. Had a breakout earlier that fail, then which i thought a reversal after, also failed. like for god sake, the retracements was so large!

month's profit is dwindling...

wished that i didn't tilt last week, then this loss would be pretty insignificant. but i was so relieved i called it quits. so relieved i tell you to just cut it and move on.

one more loss like this i'd be b/e for the month. it's like you trade the whole month just to net 3-4 days profit.

trading is very very very very hard!

I'm not gonna lie, today got me a bit pissed off, so please unless you're a live trader or don't trade anything less than $5000 account, please refrain from your damn comments about my losses.

i know some people are are trolls in disguise, so i'm making this rule to preserve my mindset.

i don't mind getting lectured about trade mechanic and mindset, if you're coming from the same boat as i am. You've been in the trenches and know what this pnl means. last thing i need is take advice from demo trader or the peasants. otherwise i'll pull a davit and ban your ass.

it's always a balancing act when you ahve bad days you want to adjust here and there. but maybe you should leave it alone. Today is my first official big losing day of the month. the tilt day last week was a b/e day (it was supposed to be per rules). so 1 out of 15 so far is pretty good.

currently looking at today's structure and trying to understand it. why it was this way. before making changes, i need to see if this is a repeated structure.

if you don't mind my input it's risk to reward that's out of balance winning days are between 1000 to 1500 losing 5500 is way out of balance
