You obviously hate The Beatles, but the fact remains that the accepted measure of a bands success is in total record sales, not total number of liver performances. The Beatles tops the list....period!

Of course Paul McCartney went on to form Wings, which also was very successful, and John Lennon had a successful solo career that would have continued had he not been shot and killed. George Harrison was also successful as a solo artist, although perhaps less so than Lennon & McCartney as they were the major song writers. Ringo (to be honest) was a human metronome and really hasn't go much to else to offer.

There was immense talent amoung the Fab 4. The same cannot be said for The Monkees.

i dont hate the beatles i just disagree with you as to their "greatness"....if we're gona use longevity the way you have against the monkees where are the rolling stones in your list?.....btw i think george harrison was a better songwriter that lennon or mccartney

It's not me who extolling their greatness...they are the top record selling band of all time, as I posted. That's just the way it is.

I haven't used longevity against The Monkees. I have simply produced the facts that show that The Beatles have sold the most records, period......and that there was immense talent in the Fab 4

the fab 4 were better musicians than the monkees since that was a fake band but they still sold better than the beatles when they went head to head.... but compared to others especially dylan or wilson of the beach boys or simon and garfunkle the beatles were pretty much studio musicians who relied on electronic gimicks by martin to make them sound like geniuses...

I reiterate, The Beatles have sold more records than anyone else....period. This is how they measure the success of a band / artists. Not by concert appearances. Perhaps you might think that The Monkees were better than Pink Floyd as the later makes extensive use of effects (both studio and live)??

comeon rj... popularity doesnt make the musician...uve posted so many obscure guitar players you should know that the monkees sold more records than your beatles

Yes, you read that correctly. In 1967, the year of Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band, Between the Buttons, and Their Satanic Majesties Request, The Monkees outsold both The Beatles and The Rolling Stones—combined. Probably because neither British band had a hit TV show on its hands. Pretty impressive considering, at least in the beginning, as discussed at length in Monkee Business, The Monkees were a manufactured group whose only contributions to the records were their voices.

No....you're spinning this like a politician. The success of a band is not, and cannot be judged on a year to year comparison. It can only be judged on the total number of record sales. The Beatles tops the list.

The 'realness' of a band is (I'm getting tired of this) is judged on their success, which is judged on overall record sales. All bands use the tools that they have available to them, some more than other. The bands use of special effects (like Pink Floyd) has no bearing on anything.

A musical instrument is anything that makes music......and that includes synthesizers, electric guitars with reverb, chorus, flangers, delay wah pedals etc etc etc. It can be a tin can guitar or drum. It can be a beer can on bottles with different volumes of water in which when tapped produces a melodic sound. It can be a sea shell blow through, or a long pole like a didgeridoo. A musical instrument can be literally anything at all, whether in a studio, your lounge at home or at the local town hall.

How the instruments are used is up to the musician to use to express him/herself. There are no rules in music.

The measure of a bands success is determined by THE TOTAL RECORD SALES. PERIOD!

It IS NOT AND CAN NOT be measured year to year, month to month or week to week.

youre forgetting 500 years of music...most people dislike classical music because it sounds boring but what they dont realize is that in the 4-500 years of the music theres a lot of shit compared to the hits...its pretty much the same with modern music...how many albums are filled with dross for the one or two hit songs...in my lifetime i think the one album that had more than 2 hits was u2's joshua tree...i couldnt believe that there was only one awful song on the whole album....but anyway your modern music and your beatles will prolly be relegated to the discount bin in the future walmart
