Do you record your trades?

This is the first time I am hearing about this. I will look into it too, thank you for the information!

I record every single trade and always will.

metatrader , thru code, can record trades in a diary, journal, excel spreadsheets and such ..... the code required is simple.....

before anyone starts chunkin rocks, please hear me out.......

lookin at the image in post 1 ..... even assuming those trades were mine...... what is difficult, at least for me, is to derive much true trade-improving value......

my average trades per week probably averages over 1000 trades, all accounts combined...... imagine lookin at 1000 trades in the manner of image 1.......

that would burn my mind.....

to paint a clearer picture, adding some much needed columns, such as dates, day of week, hour of day, trend, counter trend, reason for trades , trading system , overbought, oversold, and others, would allow us to sort by those columns .......

sorting might allow me to see system 'a' was generating 70% of my winners and system 'f' was responsible for 70% of my losers......

excel is capable of sorting in multiple levels..... here, the ' hour of the day' column can shine light.... the idea is to see if macd cross trades are more successful during london hours..... the same thought is behind the trend and counter trend columns..... and others.....

my preference is to see all trades on the chart..... short on words and numbers...... long on pretty pictures....... that is something even a hayseed can grasp.....

indicator below shows each trade..... start to finish...... placing mouse over each trade will show pips, lots, and profit/loss..... that info can be expanded within reason......

You are also one more dude on my list to thank for this tool. You described it beautifully why such analysis is crucial for success. As I share the finer details of my automation in bits, your tool also had to be tweaked to cover and track the 500K possible signals in aeaningful way. I went the route of writing in real time as you suggested but e ded up using a unique magic number for each trade setup consisting of over 350 unique parameter combinations. It then because a matter of only doing a vlookuo() in Excel to quickly understand each trade scenario. Also, myfxbook allows tracking stats by each magic number which made it super easy to draw equity curves and DD by each magicnumber. Trade Analysis is the place where majority of the time must be spend. To move forward, we have to look behind :-)

Just sharing my 2cents. I also had to tweak a lot of trade report and exposure type tools that are available out here. Everything is freely available for us to use which is the beauty of this Factory.

Hello mate; are you talking any online software support or record manually by notebook?

it a very good habit , every traders should maintain it but personally i lost interest after passing sometimes.

most of the time i trade at random, so it is not necessary.

I always maintain my trading journal. It helps me to identify my mistake and I try my best to never repeat it.

Yes, I always keep records of my tradings. Because, it helps me to make my decisions easily.

I used to, along with updates to my then current Commonplace Book. But don't need to do it anymore.

It is difficult to make a profit if the trading preparation is not good. There are many steps in trading preparation, such as how to analyze before the trade, where to set the stop loss, and how to manage the trade after trading. Good trades can turn into bad trades if they are not followed properly.

I used to. But I don't need to anymore.

I do not hold records for my trading. But I am thinking to keep a record. I think it will improve my mind set. The clearer ideas we have about our strategy, the better. It also increases confidence.

At the very least it's good to check on one's trading history from time to time.

I keep record of strategy like entry condition and exit condition. Later, i analysis that which and why my strategy did not work in lose trade.

I think it's quite helpful to keep a trading journal as it helps you recognize which strategies had helped you in the past and which had incurred a loss. Many traders don't maintain a journal as this is again another task.

not so much individual trades.. but i do keep an eye on my track record which is highly important to me.. especially drawdown and sharpe ratio

Yeah that's a great thing to do. Many times I make same mistakes. Keeping a journal can give us more understanding of our strategy and how we use the strategy. It's not the strategy but how we use it is a factor.

one thing to consider is lets say you lose a trade and you record it because of x happened. the x may never happen again., there could be another reason the next one failed or worked and so on and so on. So yes good to keep a track record in terms or your gain / dd/ etc but i dont know whether journalling every single trade will help
