Been trading about 2 years now on and off, finally at a point where I've had the lighbulb moment and turning a (little) bit of steady profit.

Hi guys happy to be online again. We had a nasty power issue here since Thursday that's kept me from trading and coming online.

@Moty, sorry for what happened to you. I actually wanted to advise you on Thursday before I had the power issue. But let me just go ahead with it to forestall future occurrence. I know I'm a newbie in trading and don't have enough experience to advise you but I have actually read Mark Douglas'(God rest his soul) books several times and watched a lot of his videos. I'm sorry to say this but in you, I saw the perfect example of what he calls "TYPICAL TRADER", an embodiment of what he said any trader aspiring for consistent results should try to avoid.
Trading is not a right or wrong game nor a place to prove a point. There's nothing wrong in taking a loss and moving on. By taking a loss, your mind will be clear to spot the next opportunity when it occurs. But when you don't, what you will be seeing in the market will be different from what the market is showing you. (Luck bailed you out on Wednesday evening but you failed to take that opportunity and get out of that trade. I was so surprised Thursday morning when I saw you're still on that trade). Please may I advise you read "Trading in the Zone" before coming back to the market again. Best of luck man.


On the other hand, I must say that I admire Ata's trading. Risk is defined and if trade doesn't work, he takes the loss and moves to the next opportunity. Just like Mark Douglas advises.
@Ata, I really aspire to get to your level of emotionless trading. I still have fear to enter a trade and fear in letting profit run. Hopefully I will overcome that soon.

However my original premise was given the existence and ownship of a good system/method, the ratio of losing to winning trader would probably remain unchanged yada yada...anyhoe I hope you all enjoyed the weather.

I want to share a strategy with everyone that has worked for me for 30 years. It is proven. It is sound. I think it could work real well with Ata's system. It is solely a strategy of money management. I call it my 3x intratrend system....... Example:

 

1. Long 1 contract at 1.1400 with s/l 1.1370, t/p 1.1500
2. You always have a plan, a strategy, research, discipline with a stop etc
3. All markets dont go in a straight line, and has many setbacks intratrend
4. Lets say market goes up to 1.1465, then sells off to 1.1450 (So at this time you still have 50 pips profit in trade)
5. At this point is the CRUCIAL point to my system. (Alot of times it is a gut feel, or could correlate to any type of technical analysis systems)
6. At this point, I purchase 3 contracts (3 TIMES my initial trade) at 1.1450 with a VERY TIGHT 5 PIP STOP of s/l 1.1445, t/p 1.1500
7. I then slide my s/l on first purchase up to a point that is equal to (Current Price minus MAX loss on second trade)
8. In this example, current price is 1.1450 minus 15 pips so I would slide my initial s/l up to 1.1435

Now we have 3 likely scenarios:

a)Market goes down to 1.1435, I am completely stopped out on both trades, but still made 20 pips (35 pip gain from trade 1 minus 15 pip loss from trade 2)
b)Market goes down below my second trade stop at 1.1445, then goes back up, the only thing I lost was 15 pips on my second trade but still made good money on first trade
c)Market goes up and hits my target of 1.1500, I hit the jackpot as I had 4 contracts working, not just 1

My experience is I get stopped out on only 20-30% of the 2nd transactions. Mostly because I have been doing it for so long I have a feel for when the intra trend selloff is over, but like I said it could correlate to some type of technical analysis. The key is you are deploying "house money" capital, because you are guaranteed not to lose any money, but your upside is way bigger. There are many deviations of this strategy, but the core concept is sound. Let your winners run, the trend is your friend, lock in profits, house money, etc).

Another key, and I know it is going to sound funny, you MUST walk away. When you lock in this trade, your worst case scenario is a gain of 20 pips, your best case scenario is a profit of 250 pips (100 pips on 1st trade plus 50 pips x3 on 2nd trade). Check the trade every hour, but dont micromanage it because what you will do is sell out early. (I know because I have done it). For example, it might go to 1.1480 down to 1.1460, up to 1.1500, and you sold out at 1.1460

Anyways, it has worked for me for 30 years, and hopefully it will help some of you. It works best with low volatility trend type of markets. It does not work in high volatility choppy markets. I am still trying to learn Atas system, but my hunch is it could work beautifully with his system............Good luck!!

I showed this solely as a money management technique. What happens is you maximize your profits on your winning trades. I am super impressed with Ata's system. When I feel 100% confident with my understanding of Ata's system(Im only at 40% right now), my plan is to deploy this money management system with Ata's technical analysis system.

Believe it or not, I learned this system personally in Vegas. Once 30 years ago I was 21, started with $50 at a table, and was up $250 profit playing $5 blackjack. , so I stuck my initial investment of $50 in my pocket, plus an additional $50 profit in my pocket, which left me $150. Then I played $15 (3x) blackjack. Then I made $500 profit, put another $200 profit in my pocket and played $45(3x) a hand and made over $2,500. I remember that day like yesterday.

Please checkout this trailing stop indicator "BATatr stops" this is different from other atrstops out there. There's a way this indicator's line move that makes it unique. When prize is pulling back, the line moves back a bit to the nearest resistance/support and stops there. So most times when other ordinary atrstop line of the same settings gets pricked by price, BATatr stop line doesn't. It rarely gets pricked and when it does, it's most likely that price dynamics have changed.
Some I'm thinking that if someone can convert the indicator to a trailing stop ea that works with the exact same logic as the indicator with little modifications like:
1.Hidden trailing stop that stays 1 spread away from the indicator line at every point.
2. Stoploss should have a start point. (Number of pips at which it starts trailing)
3.Fixed Hard/Broker's stop loss setting
4.Breakeven point + breakeven pips.( at this point the ea brings the Hard/broker's stop loss to breakeven + specified amount of pips profit to protect for unforseen events like connection and power issues while hidden stop loss trails the price based on this indicator's logic as stated above.
Great coders here please give it a short let's see.

Ofcource the ea should have settings for atr period, multipli factor and price type just like the indicator but it should have the same logic this indicator uses to move its line.

Yes, it's possible, I just have verified it live for 6 month in a row, but with 1000 pips as an average per day...

30 minutes per day to enter new pending orders after taking profit at 100 pips per trade, no stop loss at all, 3% profit from the EUR/USD pair and 97% profit from GBP/XYZ pairs.

Note that the account size is always 150.000 pips, so just doubled the account equity or pips value in 6 month, no big deal but not much time wasted...

This is similar to what I'm planning to experiment once I get a good trailing stop ea. It made a lot of sense when I thought about it some weeks ago. Great strategy I believe it would work but only when the first trade has a good profit locked in.

your money management technique is a variation and a form of so called " Pyramiding "

it is very good in strongly trending markets , where you can just let your trades " run " . In reality how many times can you just let your trades run ? This is an ideal scenario , because most of the time trades do not run , rather they just stuck , 10 pips up , 15 pips down , 7 up, 3 down , 12 up etc.

an example of that was last Thursday where the market was just dead , only ugly chops , going nowhere , pulling back and forth the whole day and only eventually starting to run in the last hours of the session

i develop further your b) scenario :

b)Market goes down below my second trade stop at 1.1445, then goes back up, the only thing I lost was 15 pips on my second trade but still made good money on first trade . But what if the mkt falls back again towards 1.1420 ? You eventually decide to close the trade, you cash in only 20 pips , whereas if you had just closed at 1.1450 you could have made 50 plain vanilla pure pips , had you just decided not to pyramid at all

but the strategy is very good in those situations where you really are in a strong lasting trending market where you can literally let your profits run

Yes it is similar to a pyramid type strategy and of course it does not work ideally in scenario you showed which my experience is only 20-30% of time. But in that example, you still did not lose, you just did not make as much. The key is the execution price of 2nd purchase.

Also I left out a big part of the system. Lets say market bounces back up to 1.1470, I slide my s/l up on my 2nd purchase to 1.1460, and I slide my s/l on initial purchase to 1.1445 (The initial s/l from the 2nd purchase)

I went through your smart logic and here is my thinking process:

1. Positive Case: You opened an X lots trade at 1.1400 and luckily price runs to 1.1450
   1. You are opening a 2nd trade with 3X lots that will have 5 pips SL.
   2. Then you are calculating where to trail SL of the 1st trade with help of this formula: Current Price - (3X trade x 5 pips SL)
   3. Calculated value will be 1.1450 - (3 x 5 pips) = 1.1450 - 0.0015 = 1.1435
   4. Now you are trailing 1st trade's SL to 1.1435
   5. 1st trade SL is moved to 1.1435 and thereby +35 pips is guaranteed for 1st trade!
      1. Sub Case of Case 1: Market reverses and stops out 2nd trade with 15 pips loss and then goes further down and also stops out 1st trade with +35 pips profit. End result is: 35 - 15 = 20 pips.
      2. Sub Case of Case 1: Market reverses and stops out 2nd trade but then goes back up and reaches 1.1500.
         End result: 100 - 15 = 85 pips
      3. Sub Case of Case 1: Market directly goes up without stopping out both trades. End result: 100 + (3 x 50) = 250 pips.

2. Negative Case: You opened an X lots trade at 1.1400 and it gets stopped out at 1.1370. End result: -30 pips loss!

To summarize with most pessimistic and less pessimistic and also optimistic logic:

1. A 1:1 win/rate can still be a loss for an unlucky person: One sub case 1 winner: 20 pips + 1 loser: 30 pips = -10 pips!
2. A 1:1 win rate for a luckier person: One sub case 2 winner: 85 pips - 30 pips = +55 pips.. we can even add 1 more loser: 55 - 30 = +15 pips in every 3 trades.
3. A 1:1 win rate for luckiest person: One sub case 3 winner: 250 pips - 30 pips = 220 pips.. we can even add 7 more losers: 220 - 210 = +10 pips in every 9 trades!
4. If we could guarantee 3:1 win/loss ratio, meaning: if we could guarantee at least 2 winners in every 3 trades then this can definitely bring you:
   2 x 1st sub case winners = 2 x 20 pips = 40 pips - 1 loser = -30 pips = 40 - 30 = 10 pips profit in every 3 trades!
5. If you are lucky then you can even have 3:2 or 3:3 win/loss ratio as long as you make sure that one of your winners is the 85 pips version.
6. If you are very lucky, then you can even have 2:3 or 2:4 or even 1:9 win/loss ratio as long as you make sure that one of your winners is the 250 pips version.
7. You strategy can work at any level at any given point and doesn't have to start at big round number (BRN) levels like 1.1300 or 1.1700 etc. Important is to find a place where there is the potential of 50 pips move. So one must focus to find an entry that would rally at least 50 pips. That is the trick here and also the hour of news announcements, trump tweets, idle hours or choppy market conditions will affect this system negatively, so those times also must be avoided.

So..... the devil sits in the details they say. Overall we only have to make sure not to lose those initial 30 pips. Meaning we are back at square one: How to enter a successful trade? Once we solve that part out Bob is your uncle. And also, these are 100% certain cases:

1. If you can guarantee at least one 85 pips winner or two 20 pips winners in every 3 trades Bob is your uncle.
2. If you can guarantee at least one 250 pips winner in every 9 trades Bob is your uncle.
3. If you can guarantee only one loss in every 3 trades Bob is your uncle.

Your logic is very good indeed. And personally, I can start trying your logic with this condition: For my next 10 trades, once one of my trades reaches +50 pips profit I will immediately apply your logic combined with my own. That way I would know that in a worst case scenario I would still get 20 pips but that now I have the chance to get an additional 65 or 230 pips more than I planned. I'll keep you posted..
