Guys, Oanda just got bought by CVC Capital Partners. Does this mean there will be any changes in terms and conditions? Does anyone know anything?

Only Oanda's representatives would tell you that. But I would doubt that it will change.
On top of that - Oanda offering PRO accounts to bigger traders. It looks like they acting as IB for Currenex.

Is Oanda still a good broker to use in 2018 ? I'm actually considering using them because I use tradingview for chart analysis.

I have been using them since 2008 and have never had an issue. If you can get a Premium account , $20K minimum, you will get a roughly a 40% discount on spreads as well as a 20% discount on commissions. You can trade right through TradingView if you like. Below is a screenshot of my live prices on USD Majors.

Oanda still has dynamic spreads which adjust according to liquidity and news. They no longer pay interest on your idle account balance. If you are in the USA the margin requirements have also been adjusted (screenshot below).

If you are a US trader and want to stay onshore, you only have 3 options. Oanda, Gain Capital & Interactive Brokers. I have tried all 3 and my preference is Oanda. You may like others but if you want to use TradingView, Oanda and Gain Capital (DBA Forex .com) are your only options.

Good Luck,

- Ric

I've been trying to make a single buck for three years with Oanda. No go. Their system is designed in such a way that it keeps changing the spreads on their instruments on the fly depending on volatility. It's so childish you have no idea of the order book. Every trade is worse than a gamble even if you consider a gamble to be 50/50.

Ever since I started trading real money, I have been with Oanda and I have been profitable overall. Look at your trading first, before blaming the broker.

That is true. You improve the odds in your favour ever so slightly by trading a real account.
However there is still the overhanging question of, for example, spreads which are by no means fixed. They advertise their product as fixed spreads. It isn't and so is misleading.
Spreads is just one issue. There are others - I needn't go into.
Basically this is pure, unadulterated betting and you are trading blind with no recourse into any instrument insight whatsoever. There are so many blocks stacked against you that your performance is guaranteed to be subpar. Be very careful, don't confuse random luck of the draw with some sort of view that you have superior performance. You don't. No one does.

I am not saying I have a superior performance, or something. All I am saying is that I have been profitable, on the whole, over a period of 7 years. Long enough to rule out randomness, methinks. Even during my losing streaks, I could tell it was me vs. markets, not vs. the broker.
Any sort of financial speculation - be it stocks, forex, commodities, plethora of their derivatives and whatnot - is fundamentally gambling, with all that comes along with it. Therefore, proper risk management is the key.

As for their fixed spreads adverts - I have not seen them. Perhaps I was not paying attention, because it does not matter to my style of trading. Still, spreads do widen with other brokers, too, during news and when liquidity dries up, too.
One thing worries me, concerning Oanda, the recent change of ownership. I do not know, what does it say about the company's condition. Hopefully, we will not see "Miss Oanda" contest, signing-up bonuses and golden watches as a trading contest prize. For me, these would mean a signal to run away.

7 years, how come you still sound like a child?
If you wish to delude yourself then by all means be my guest.
The brokerage is good. They know how to hoover up customers using the most minimal effort required. I'd call this the entertainment business.

You are not lying but you are deluded. And if you refuse to listen to reason that might make you stupid too.
This game is like being invited to an away game of football or basketball where the pitch is every so slightly slanted upwards at the home side. You may not see it but the odds are meticulously stacked against you. Its so silly, it defies belief.

I honestly can't say who's more stupid, the brokers trying to take you for a fool or the customers themselves.

Sorry, pal, but I think you simply suck at the game, hence your need to blame the referee, the pitch, the ball and so on. That does not make you a good trader, though, but a silly loser.

I spent three years carrying out fundamental research in developing a proof in principle in order to trade -- it shows that this game is folly and does not work. It is in the numbers coupled with the nature of the system, both of which don't lie. The only commendation is to the brokers themselves, for discovering such a simple and effective system which works over and over again at generating their revenue without fail.
You OTOH have nothing to show apart from some hypothetical claim that you are profitable. I couldn't care less. For all we know you probably can't count. Regardless, the ultimate truth is shown by the proof and that's where I lay my trust.

At the moment I see two major flaws in this broker's system.

1. Variable spreads.
2. Poor execution times. OANDA offers 123 instruments. If you trade them all, orders typically take 10s to execute. So purely rubbish.

And what do YOU have to show, other than bragging about your so called 'fundamental research' and moaning about your losses? Where is your proof? Your claims are just as hypothetical, as mine. Here is a free advice: man up, pull yourself together, learn the ropes and deliver, or quit, in case you are incapable of doing so, intelectually or otherwise.

10 s. delay on executing a trade through Oanda, FFS! Ask your GP to change your medications.

Honestly never had any trouble with them for the 8 or so years I been using them. I agree though that their spreads are too wide at times which is annoying.
