Hi guys,

May I ask that why WD Gann related teachings seems to be focusing on commodities? I know nowadays people are adapting it to different market, but articles and readings I see around seems to be focusing on said commodities.

Are there any specific reasons?

Well, I'm not expert of Gann, but the main reason is that commodities are strictly linked to natural cycles
Currencies are not, for example.

Hello all,
I'm into astrology since early 90s, but not good at using it for trading.

Jnevins I'm really impressed by your research.
One question: when I try to find planetary cycles suitable to trade, I focus on a restricted number of events. Or better: the same astro events, forever.
What surprises me, instead, is that every week, in your forecast, you use always different ones. Yet they work.
E.g. this week you write:
"The green line is Mars-Saturn phase 7h and the brown line is Saturn-Saturn, phase, 3h"

Last week: " The light green line is Sun-Sun, Geo, 4h.
The red line is Uranus alone, 6h, phase."

How possible? Shouldn't we expect that the same astro events affects price in rising or decreasing?

last week you used Sun and Uranus. This week its different. Are you using the composite astro expert to find relevant and recent cycles or are you doing the changes manually based on your own knowledge?

Hi Jack-fx,

Thanks for the kind words. As I searched for suitable cycles to apply each week, I found that a good cycle broke down and didn't work in the following week... As I searched for reasons that might happen, I started to develop a theory of a kind of hierarchy of what works and what doesn't (backed up by much back testing). I found, for instance, that if the Moon crossed a planet during the trading week, the projection line seemed to get disturbed and became inaccurate. Conjunctions, squares and oppositions also caused a disturbance. When I post a new line for the week, I look for planets "in the clear", free of those disturbances. Lately I have been also searching for the holy grail of astro forecasting, why an inversion might occur... I am still trying to find a consistent reason... One phenomenon I did observe is that as the sun entered a new house, (the 21st and 22nd each month) That an inversion of another wise stable cycle occurred. That isn't the only time however. So far this week, I have seen an inversion occurring from the prediction in post 9155 . The chart below shows the exact setup, but inverted. I don't know why this occurred this week. Mars is joining Saturn in Capricorn this week... and Saturn is also exalted in Capricorn... hence an emphasis on Saturn this week. No other complications as listed above are present. Saturn is in retrograde right now... An area I want to look at is could a retrograde contribute to or cause an inversion?

As you can see, there is nothing easy or automatic about this area of inquiry!

Gann also worked with stock trading... Here are excerpts from an Investopedia article...

W.D. Gann was born in 1878 in Lufkin, Texas, the first of 11 children in an impoverished cotton-farming family. He neither graduated from grammar school nor attended high school as he was needed at home to work on the farm. His education mainly came from the Bible (he was raised a Baptist), which he used to learn to read, and in the cotton warehouses, where he learned about commodities trading. Gann started his career working at a brokerage firm in Texarkana and attending business school at night.

One of the strongest pieces of evidence bolstering Gann’s reputation as a master trader hails from a 1909 Ticker and Investment Digest article by Richard D. Wyckoff, a well-respected figure on Wall Street at the time. The article describes Gann’s performance recorded by an independent observer: “During the month of October, 1909, in twenty-five market days, W D Gann made, in the presence of our representative, two hundred and eighty-six transactions in various stocks, on both the long and short side of the market. Two hundred and sixty-four of these transactions resulted in profits; twenty-two in losses. The capital with which he operated was doubled ten times, so that at the end of the month he had one thousand percent of his original margin.”

You say that a negative 5.7% correlation is the best you can get...

I have 92.5% and 89.8% on my inverted curves.... 30 min data, 10,000 bars EDT.... But it is high as it is on the bars generated since the market open.

Indeed. I had a feeling I was being naive thinking I could run all the experts and find something.


Some noticeable differences on the tests which were run by the composite astro expert compared to what you are showing:

 

  1. The number of bars in my test category is almost as many as you have total
  2. All the options are looking at Last Cycles whereas you have All Bars selected

Here is EUR m15 730 days 47,239 bars.

I came across this article too.
My knowledge about this type of trading is shallower than skin deep, it's just that I have been seeing here and there people quoting/citing along the lines of "...who and who said soybean has always been deem related if looking at the time cycle...", "...bitcoin is extremely sensitive to mars cycle..." and so on.

I have started to make a book list and acquired related books on this type of trading just to get a better idea what is this about. May be it's already explained by the books? I don't know because I'm yet to start reading related books.

Then I came across this thread and think may be practitioners here can shed some light on this.

Before asking undocumented questions - you should do some homework - for example by using Google or similar

you will find some books from Gann as

- Stock Market Forecasting Courses
- Wall street stock Selelector
- New Stock Trend Detetector

Given enough study, you will find something. On the chart you posted, I noticed that the Sun-Merc 1h helio curve forecast the PA for this week very well... but notice the prior week... not so well... why?

My hope is that more eyes and brains looking for answers, and working together can shed more light.

NO. No relation . Finally the low was later at the Mars square Neptune HELIO event at 15.54 at 1. 19 37~

Got stoped and reentered long . I am not sure it won't go lower but I tried long here . If it works OK

And yes, I did google, I did make a list of books I plan to read to further understand this approach/school of thought. It's just that I am currently occupied, thought I could throw out some questions here to quench my curiosity.

Perhaps I should refine my searching terms in google.
