The Lancaster does it for me every time. The other year I paid a bloke to fly me over Wickenby airfield so I could take some snaps on the phone. A partial section of the runway is tarmac'd and still operational for general aviation. The main runway, which runs from the lower left of the pic is disused and going back to grass. Can you imagine an entire squadron of Lancasters taking off from there?

If an alien visitor wanted to get a handle on what Machiavellian deviousness looks like in action they'd only have to observe what's gone on with the Lords.

Notwithstanding the fact that the hereditary peer is rarely going to be that popular with the electorate, at least they provided a reasonably independent check and balance function in the tri-partite system of Crown, Lords and Parliament.

To forcibly remove the hereditary Lords and replace them with ones answerable to the party whip is terrible really and supplants the divine right of Kings with the divine right of MPs. Makes sense that they'd also hook them up to the EU pension train in the process; they like their gravy thick as we know.
