Hello

MA's cross has been the simplest trading strategy i've ever come across, also very underrated imho.
Another factor, besides simplicity, that makes this strategy attractive is that all tools required are included in the downloadable MT4 packages and they never go out of date no matter the software's updates, while it is very easy to set up this template from scratch in whatever device anyone uses.

So,
EMA 5, close
EMA10, close
SMA200, close.
A couple of extra tools appearing in the charts published are attached in a zip file together with the reference template.

Rules for any pair and any timeframe are the following.

Long entry:
a) bullish candle closes above EMA5
b) EMA5>EMA10>SMA200
c) slope of all MA's is upwards
SL in previous-1 swing low.
Exit: in first candle closing below EMA5

Short entry:
a) bearish candle closes below EMA5
b) EMA5<EMA10<SMA200
c) slope of all MA's is downwards
SL in previous-1 swing high.
Exit: in first candle closing above EMA5

Feel free to submit charts with trades or potential trades according to the certain strategy/system.
Please, avoid adding any more indicators, this is supposed to be in the KISS category.
Please notice that in order for the potential or realized trades to be useful for others too, only H1, H4 or D1 charts fit here.

This morning's first trade:
Long GBP/USD

I agree keeping it simple is best. Saying that though, for me, I can only see shorts on GU ref H1, H4 and D1 at present, good luck though.

I feel you Landline regarding the shorts.
Please notice that this thread's aim besides defending an under-rated strategy/system is following the rules every time they are met, for exercising discipline too.

1.255 should be a nice price to close half position though .

Understood, the main thing is you have a straightforward strategy, and you plan to stay disciplined with it. All good.... now it is only results over a series of trades that will determine whether or not it is a successful strategy.....time will tell of course.

Thanks for sharing.

I'm always curious about simple mechanical systems because I have been lead to believe that over a decent timeframe your account will simply evaporate at the speed of the spread. It's not until the trader's judgement, unspoken rules etc. are applied that an edge can present itself. (And it's these extras that make an EA of the simple mechanical system impossible to create, or makes it impossible for another trader to replicate the results manually)

I notice your trade in the image in post one closed below EMA5 on the first bar after entry = [Exit: in first candle closing below EMA5 ].
I assume that was the trade shown in the TE that shows a profit?

Do you have another rule/s like "Exit: in first candle closing below EMA5 in profit " ?

While I'm asking qu.s... Do you limit entries to particular days and/or times?

Also: a) bullish candle closes above EMA5 - Does it have to open below the EMA5?

Rgds. (from a hobby trader)

confirming. This was a very early close, should have continued trading the same position until the moment writing these lines.

If it doesn't open below the fastest MA, then it is by all means in compliance with the rules but it is a late, therefore riskier, entry. I would avoid it. From experience it is better not to take, than chase and enter late in, a trade.

Thanks for your input
