Disliked{quote} Just wondering, you seem to be knowledgeable on matters scientific, nutrition and healthy living - did you know all that stuff before your heart attacks or is your knowledge more recently gained? Absolutely no correlation whatsoever: USA has the highest meat consumption in the world at 120kg per person a year: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/travel/maps-and-graphics/world-according-to-meat-consumption/ That is 2.3kg a week! Wow, even if nothing else you lot must be seriously bunged up. Some would say full of ****, ah but not I of course......Ignored

Disliked{quote} I’m a nurse practitioner for the last 30years. It is popular to believe that meat, fat and such is the culprit. The fact is that CV disease and diabetes has accelerated not only in the US but pretty in every industrialized nation. This occurred after the public was indoctrinated with the belief that a low fat diet is healthy. This belief is now being slowly exposed. My first heart attack occurred during a bitter and ugly divorce at age 48. Fortunately I was at work and got myself to the ER immiediateldy where the medication they gave me...Ignored
Disliked{quote} It is not so much the meat eating as that we still eat an agrarian diet. We eat tremendous amounts of calories as if we still did manual farming. We don't. Even todays farmers are fat because they are still eating Western breakfast as if they are going to be in a field or a manual factory all day. It is okay to eat a side of beef if you are going to burn it. Not so much if you are sitting in a chair pushing a button. {quote} I eat a paleo diet from time to time as well when my knee starts to bother me. My knee tells me when I am too heavy....Ignored
Disliked{quote} Directly after it was in the high 40s but it slowly improved and now runs between 50-60 (low normal). During my echodardiograms you can see the part of my heart that was damaged. Oddly enought I can still exercise like I used to. I ski fairly aggressively at altitudes of 9-10K feet without any symptoms.Ignored

Disliked{quote} I think what jen was conveying in her British way is that you cannot afford another MI. I understand also that you understand that a lot of health food memes are driven by experts who are not even practitioners, but those that are find it difficult to turn away the money that selling provides. Case in point, Dr Oz, who is a board certified Cardiologist.Ignored

Disliked{quote} So you were quite young then. Were you overweight? Did you have a sedentary lifestyle? The French actually do eat a fair amount of meat, and carbs (no where else can you get their bread!) and fat. They don't do too badly. I love French food and I feel good with it. However, every time I am in the US, the sheer size of your food is enough to give me a panic attack. I then feel extremely sick and that's not because I have eaten that much. I have often wondered why. I do find it very rich with a lot of salt and probably MSG. I have since suspected...Ignored
Disliked{quote} Very true. That’s why one needs to do their own research and make an attempt to uncover facts rather than hype. There is a lot of science to back up a diet rich in animal protein and fat which includes fish too. Getting carbs from unprocessed sources is encouraged. Veggies of any quantity are allowed but many fruits are discouarged because of thier high sugar content. Blueberries, raspberries and strawberries are low in sugar. Sugar, bread, pastries, and the like are the real culprits of the increasing incidence of diabetes and CV disease....Ignored
Disliked{quote} Yes 47 is pretty young to have an MI (myocardial infarction) also known as a heart attack. I’ve never been sedentary. I was an avid tennis player for 20 years regularly competing. And as I have said I ski during the winter. At 5ft 8 inches I weighed 150 lbs. But my diet was very high in sweets and such. I was addicted. I loved Starbucks pastries. My weight ballooned to nearly 180 after my first heart attack as I was in denial during that time. The second one was an eye opener and scared me for sure. I also have a strong history of CV diesease...Ignored

Disliked{quote} 180 lbs is 81.6kg and you had a BMI of 27.3. That is overweight, but certainly not obese. What was your body fat percentage? Did you have high visceral fat? I don't really get it, I think if you were addicted to high sugar / carbs then you would have got fatter first before having a heart attack. There are a lot of people in a far worse state than that walking about.Ignored
DislikedIt depends on the wheat you're consuming. I use Einkorn wheat. Which is one of the ancient wheat's. Only 2 chromosomes instead of 8. Also still has the germ with it. My bread would fall pretty low on the glycemic scale which I feel is one of the keys. Same with the brown rice, germ intact. Night and day difference with wonder bread. Foods low on the glycemic scale are better then those high on the scale. There was a large study done in Europe about it a couple years back. The Nordic diet is based on what was found in the study, even though the Scandinavian's...Ignored
