Ok we can say 1000 or whatever. They said 650mph because of their position and for your globe I believe the arrows need to be counter-clockwise but again it doesn't matter.

So the guy maintains 10mph and stays in position.
So if we looking up at that plane going in the opposite direction will it just be hovering in same position if it maintains 650mph ?

Ok then, we didn't go to the moon, ISS doesn't exist (so what is it then and who put it there?), Curiosity didn't go to Mars, no probe to Saturn, the earth is flat. Very easy to criticise. Just because you're not satisfied that it is round, therefore it has to be flat, right? Now explain why it is flat and not from your process of elimination. How does gravity work on a flat earth? What is gravity? Why is there gravity? Prove to us gravity on a flat earth is viable.

If you are watching the plane from earth then no the plane will be moving in relation to you and everything on the earth, however if you were watching from a stationary point in space (like the picture I drew looking at the earth and the sun rays beaming on it) then yes the plane would look like it is hovering in the same position whilst the earth is spinning underneath it.

saying this, there is no such thing as a stationary point in space. I meant a stationary point in relation to the earth

I thought you might say that. So by that assumption if it it would be viewed as still from space when it matches the earths speed then that means if it was going the other way it would cover twice the distance ie with the rotation as it is now doing 1300mph.

But the reality is say for travel between NY and London flight time is roughly the same, both ways.

Will have a scout around online to see if I can find something to model this. It doesn't sit right with me. If it is relative to earth and atmosphere I would have thought it would remain in a fixed position but from space would have the appearance of going backwards as it's speed cancels out the reverse rotation and it just goes backwards at 650mph the same as the earth because they still all supposed to be moving together. Got brain ache !
