traded Brent off the news - lucky with this one there was big gap

stopped on 16 plus 1.3 slippage for crude going long Brent...

Oil move short was minor (so far) given that Brent is in a strong up trend.

Hello all,

I´m not sure I´m stupid or not. But can´t we make it a 100% winner if we open a buy and a sell on the same pair at the same time with a short SL in either one direction?

Pls, explain why this might not work.

of course it will work, when you really have this low slippage. then you are always in correct trade, and lose sometimes 2 times small.
but a 100% winner is not possible, you win much more, but because you can lose both because of spread it cant be 100%.

but i did mention already many times that straddle or what you say would have much more win, when this argument with very low slippage would be true. but people here cant see it , its not possible to say why (ok, you can see it). its simple math that you would have much more win with this then tonys method by same low slippage.

but you can bring many arguments to much more easy methods, most dont want even to think about. lost time with some.

Hi Marsimo4o,
I found a broker around 6-7 years ago, where I could set a buy stop some pips above and a sell stop some pips below price, and I had no slippage .....I could not believe it, and I made a lot of money with this method. It was a UK broker (big bank) who closed around 6 months later. Tried the same on many different brokers but did never work because ........an example I set my 2 orders, nfp..... short was triggerd with slippage of 20 -30 pips because it mooved so fast, then price got very fast in the other direction.......stop loss hit, also with slippage.....that means I had 20-30 pips slippage short plus some pips slippage on my stop loss when price turned very fast......let say 25 pips slippage on my short order plus a 18 pips stop loss, plus slippage on my stop loss of around 10 pips.......... all in all around -50 pips with very high lot size............Thats not all......my long order was also triggered, also with some slippage .....also turned and I was stopped out again with -18 pips plus some slippage........lets say -25 pips...... All in all 1 News - 75 pips with very high lot size. Was a really funny day! :-)
I tried it with many different brokers, I never found one like this UK broker before where I had no slippage. The only one who has no slippage on my stop loss was big O...... thats why I trade with them.
Maybe there is somewhere a broker where it works, I never found one. ;-)
You can open a subaccount with O..... and take a buy in one account and a sell on your subaccount.....sometimes you will have 2 losses, sometimes a small loss and a winner, but never 100%. Maybe thats an option. ;-)

but if i would buy and sell before the actual news release? wouldn´t that mean no slippage at all? couldn´t i place orders like 30sec before with stop loss ~10pips to stay in the trade?

Ig index used to to have a set gaurentee sl of 20 pips now it’s set at 190 pips 5 min prior to news. Wish I utilised a straddle strategy then..

Agreed, if you watch interest rate decisions closely you can make good pips from surprise releases. The idea of buying the rumor and selling the fact

I trade a couple of high prob trades a week, not necessarily just news trades. I trade any anomaly in a market that I believe has a high probability of success. Commodities, Indicies, Stocks, Forex. It’s just finding the best tool to trade what you want that can be difficult. I'm using the futures market a bit more now than the forex market as you can see the depth of the market and I feel more confident that I’m getting a piece of the actual market and I'm not just on some B book of a bucket shop.

I really dont want to jinx this coin toss luck thing. lol.. I could not open the trade at 2Sec before news. But opened after spread went to normal immediately.

Interesting... I also played for the short on the basis that the rate would increase but that the voting would be at least one more vote for the no change. So went short. Got stopped out (slipped 1 pip). So went long to recover trade and it then whipped short again. SO was stopped out for 12 pips and actually got a positive 4 pips slippage on this loser trade (go figure!!). I am trading a live account with an ECN broker...

Went short again and recovered 23 of the 29 pips lost. So can't complain to much ...

Was not a good Interest rate news item to trade in my view as it was set for an increase which was already factored into the market.
