If they clocked you at 58, your speedo must have said about 63. Use an independent sat nav or an app on your phone and you will see that car speedos are always out by 4-5mph. That is the cushion in case you get clocked. No excuse for doing 63 past a big yellow box!

Got caught in roadworks on M62 between Manchester and Leeds, it's one of those average speed zones and it's about 14 miles long total pain in the arse. 3 points and £100 fine or attend a £79 speed awareness course and no points. It will cost me more in lost time but intrigued what they are going to show me for 4 hours that will make me safer on the road. Just another TAX.

They will be all patronising showing you pictures of dead bodies strewn across the road. Jeremy Clarkson mentioned some statistics to prove that it is not speed that is unsafe; most accidents are caused by lorries and the stats are also skewed by motorbike accidents. I always use cruise control, or the limiter if it is slower moving, where there are average speed cameras.

Guess what ?.......I have cruise control and speed limiter on my crappy Renault but I never think to use it.

Has anyone heard any more about that Austrian guy Martin Sellnar/ Sellmer ? He chartered a ship to go and patrol the Med to try and halt the antics of the NGO loons. ?
