Austin is on the edge of the rains, so North Texas is not so bad. Houston is a mess, the coast generally is a mess. They say that most peoples sense of history is their lifetime. Have studied ancient and world history a good deal. Also a lot of American history. Very good discussion few days ago on what really started the American civil war. I was surprised some folks as knowledgeable as they are. As are most wars, it was economic and the slavery issue was needed to get people fired up. Truth was that England and some of the European countries were willing to pay more for southern cotton than the northern industrial complex wanted to pay. I live in a area that had some pretty large plantations and slavery was on the way out when the war was started. Owners were beginning to teach their slaves to read and write and were taking them to church with them. They were beginning to give limited freedom and were making some of them managers over various projects. They were learning that incentive worked a lot better than forced labor. Good old capitalism. Slavery was wrong, detestable and would have died out on its own., Tariffs became the order of the day. Rest is history.

My interest over the last 20 or so years has been the events that occurred in the early 20th century to present, particularly the immediate years leading up to and those involving Woodrow Wilson. I give more credit to him and LBJ for putting us on the course we are on than I do FDR. Can we change the course? I hope so but I honestly don't know.

Except that you cannot separate the last 20 years, jar. This country is young, 20 years is 10% of her history. Hamilton and Jefferson are still battling it out today. Lincoln chose Hamilton. Do you disagree that we are even today still feeling the effect of the the Civil War? Was slavery wrong? Of course it was. And we could have dealt with it like the rest of the West did, but we did not. If we had done what the Brits did, there would be no talk of reparations, and BLM and all of that. Now we have to once again face our original sin. It is our original sin only because the founders of this nation were bold enough to try something never done before. So now we are fighting again, we are in a second Civil War.

A bit about LBJ. As I said before, I don't understand him other than he made a calculation that JFK and RFK made to bring the democrats to power everywhere except the South. There is video I would like to share, tell me what you think.

I think we have a lot in common! I too remember those moments as well "Operation Ajax" anyone? The Chile debacle, I remember years ago watching the movie "Missing" starring Jack Lemmon and Sissy Spacek, which I think was loosely based on that purge. Chile is an interesting country, went skiing there a few years ago, and it is absolutely a beautiful place. Longest coastline in the world with diverse climates.

The reverberating effects of the Civil can still be felt today. For many reasons, the war itself left deep scars, and was by far the most profoundest in all of American history. As the saying goes, the victors write history, but many today are finding out the truth. The most important Historian of the 21st century that covers this topic very well, is Thomas DeLorenzo. He uncovered Lincoln's mask, and to no ones surprise the leftist academia BS con artists sought to discredit him at every turn that they could get. Thanks to the internet, they didn't succeed!
