{quote} Your mind is limited. What makes you think the DD is 80%... or anywhere near that?? My programmer is incredible. But that doesn't mean hes a good enough trader to figure out how make a winning strategy on his own. You may be a great programmer but you don't understand that concept I guess. When my EA take 10,000 trades per year that profit 0.01-0.05% each. You do the math. Theres about ~5 million retail forex traders in the world. ~250,000 are profitable. Of those 250,000 probably only 20,000 or less have profitable EAs (complete guess)...

suuure.... you just don't know how long it takes to backtest complex stuff over a 10 years period on the M30 TF and using open prices... about 5 hours.

15 years using tick data !?... at least 10 years.

Dude you fucking serious. Is your processor a toaster?

How can you say it takes 10 years to run 15 years of tick data. Dumbest thing I've ever heard.
I'm starting to think you are a troll because no one is that dumb.

Your status is "bored of losing". You just seem like you are bitter and skeptical from years of losing money

Open prices only backtest? What kind of idiot would ever do that?

At least need high/low/open/close. and a 1 minute time frame doing that over 10 years takes about 15 minutes.

Get out of my thread troll.

What do you mean my EA has nothing to do with price action? It's entry is entirely based on candlestick formations.
I don't use any indicators.

You truly actually believe, an OPEN only 10 year backtest on the M30 takes 5 hours???

Takes less than 15 minutes using only OPEN prices.
Your computer sucks. Sorry.

Please leave my thread troll.

Rags, I honestly cant tell you how much I have learned from you.

I was showing a few of my friends the trades you posted before you left.

Hard work does pay off, Im beginning to see it myself. EAs are out of the picture for me but one day I hope to be throwing 20 clips at SPY like you ya crazy bastard.

Cheers!

I prefer taking the "hybrid" approach. My EA is set to the rules, whilst I manage it if it seems like a trade it wants to take is unnecessary or foolish for the current circumstances. Example would be an hourly trade with a 15 pip stop loss 10 minutes before NFP.

of course there are profitable EA's out there, to say otherwise would be denying HFT exists.

Good thread

I struggled a long time to come up with a viable strategy for EAs (I work full time and didn't want to give up my other hobbies or social life for trading). It was a two step process: invent the strategy, then learn to code. I simply didn't want to put in the time to do that. After a lot of blood, sweat, and tears, I gave up. I had to accept the difficult fact that I simply am not smart enough to compete with cutting edge EA wizards. This lead me to simply buying EAs and adapting them to fit my own needs. It was a long and expensive road, but I feel like I've made it. People say you can "beat" the forex market. Instead of doing that, I choose to game it. I've found an automated trading approach that fits my aggressive nature.

I agree with being ultra aggressive. I now treat trading like gambling (contrary to popular wisdom), and instead of hoping for 20% on a $1000 account, I will gun for 300-400% on $1000 every month, withdraw the profit, then do it again. Over and over. Sometimes it will fail, but usually it will not. A year later, my results and income have skyrocketed.

Stay persistent, stay self-aware. Find an approach that fits your personality.

In case anyone asks if I can share the EAs: no.

There is no profitable EA, really it is! Personally I know many successful Forex traders and all of they are doing their trading manually! Even, now I am quite happy on my manual trading result! The main advantage of manual trading is transparency!

Can you recommend some good custom-able EAs?

I did a backtest for a year and it came out profitable. Keep in mind I litteraly know less than a few lines of code. I downloaded a simple expert advisor on mql its really shit btw. I edited a few lines in the code, adjusted a few settings and gosh darn it.. My equity curve did a U-turn it litteraly went from sad to "hey there you rich bastard". My point being here is that I read this thread and the other posts of this wise man and applied what I understood of it. The thing here is that we all know backtesting does not really provide live market environment trading experience but it proves 2 things.

1. I know a years backtest is "too short" for a credible judgement of my methodolgy and the experts profitability but it does prove that any ea can be made into something profitable. If you know how that is.

2. Backtesting confirms your rules of your trading strategy. This means it has rules that can be followed to eliminate a few of the emotions of trading a strategy manualy.

So i would just first of all like to thank the thread starter for giving me some motivation and his advice on this journey to profitability we're all venturing on.

Im gonna be backtesting the ea on a wider timespan and then forwardtest it on a small live (I dont believe in demo testing) account and post results here whether it's profitable or not.

Oh and..

Im not sharing anything about the ea.
Also im not selling anything to anyone so please don't ridicule me.

Im doing this for my own personal reasons.

Blessed trades everyone
Why are you trading?
