Gloucester pronounced Glos-ter. Gloucestershire pronounced Glos-ter-sher, not shire. Greenwich pronounced Gren-ich, not Green-witch. Yes, quay is pronounced key. Aluminium is al-loo-min-e-um.

My one Uncle who escaped through Finland was a remarkable story. Years after the war he went into business by having a Camera shop. My Uncle said that he and Harrison just laughed at him, but it was in that moment how he came to believe in reincarnation and that to this day that experience never quite left him. He later concluded this story when describing crawling through a tunnel of human excrement that led them to Finland. There they were helped by a group of Finnish Soldiers who had assisted him and his mates escape and eventually made it to England where he got his broken Clavicle reset in a country side hospital where he coalesced for the remainder of the war.

Perhaps you were a little too forthright in putting your point across? You have to wrap the shit in a fluffy cotton wool ball before you throw it.

Yeah I suspected as much, but I wasn't willing to go there, just that it seemed he was driving at the blame game in a round about way. I should have known as much with the certain clues he gave away! Totally absurd! Can't even sneeze without getting a COC!

These people have been taught for years that the US is the bad guy. Yet they are terrified to look in their own closets. I have been noticing that the folks from the Balkans have a very poor outlook and understanding of the world.

This site has become sadly pathetic. They enforce the PC mentality against anyone right of center but allow the gibberish of the left to stand. Lately I do not quote most in my comments. I do things like this:

Is it not, there is the Queen's English and then there is all that guttural gibberish that claims to be English. (I fall into the latter category and often make a mess of my own messy version.)

There are some words I prefer the American spelling of. I think we don't use z enough in the UK... for example specialise or specialize. Everybody pronounces it the latter but we spell it the former.

Me too. I read some things a while later and think to myself "Oh dear my grammar was shocking there" and my spelling seems to have deteriorated too, think I may have developed a touch of age onset dyslexia, if such a thing exists.

You are probably right. Perhaps also BBC? Has anyone noticed that in recent years, standards have really fallen? I am seeing poor grammar and sometimes spelling mistakes on signs and adverts, not to mention on much of what is published online. Standards used to be a lot better when I was at school before the days of the internet; we were taught how to write properly!

No, if you want to spell it how it is pronounced, then it should be "specialice," as in "lice."
