Can anyone remind me WHY we are supposed to pay something to the EU as a Brexit deal ?? ..... I could understand if we were arrears on payments but I have not come across a good article describing this ?

They want money because they are greedy a-holes and scared sh1tless about the HUGE hole in their budget when we (one of the largest net funding nations) leave. The French want us to continue to subsidize their farmers The Germans already pay enough and don't want to pay more, most of EU gets subsidized (call it supplementary benefit!) Italy's in chaos, Greece is financially imploding, Portugal and Spain are on their knees, Holland doesn't want ot pick up the bill any more than Germany does and the list goes on.

They want UK to keep funding it. If not on an on-going basis, then for years to come via a settlement.

We should indeed pay our Legitimate bills, (which are few) but you are right - It is inappropriate to demand anything more than that. EU doesn't care - they just want to plug the hole and keep the party going for the few with snouts in that trough...

Indeed and exactly he said that, although he did not use those words. What he did say that is factually correct (in Germany) is that the birth rate is 0.9, which means that not enough children are being born to maintain the current population. In Germany's case, way way too few. IIRC the UK is running at about 1.8 and it needs to be about 2.5.

The problem is .... it needed to be 2.5 for the last 30 years. We have had a succession of idiots in power who have destroyed the habitat necessary for birth rates to be maintained. That goes right back to Thatcher (where my level of awareness peters-out). Yes I did vote for her at the time......

Here we have an example of the creeping inadequacy of our political system and the pandering of politicians to current and immediate issues, in the interests of securing the next election, rather than addressing the demographic issues that have sprung-up to bite us. The western philosophy to revere young and dynamic personalities has given us idiots in power such as Cameron and Blair ... neither of whom had enough life-experience to be given the reins and sensibly run the country. The are some other examples across the channel.

Martin Sellner (sp?) encouragingly seems to have his head screwed-on. He is advocating one of the possible paths forward. Another path is to piss-off to another country ... except that a number of us have grandchildren whom we don't want to leave behind. Maybe we should all go to Africa.....
