fantastic!

Is there any way to get this to work with Active Trader? Since it appears that the extension needs to be installed within the desktop app and last I checked AT was a web platform only.
Ignored
I don't believe so since AT charts don't have the strategy/custom indicator functionality added yet. The goal is to bring AT and TS web charts up to the same level as the desktop Trading Station, but we're not there yet. It would be best to post on FXCodeBase to see if there's any other option or check with the programming team at www.fxprogrammers.com. The programming team can usually come up with creative solutions.

I think we have a candidate for epic troll post of the year.

(edit, I'm not even making fun of the guy... I just found this so indirectly funny that I couldn't tell if he was serious or not.)

What is funny? I really serious.
May be the funny thing is that TS2 does not allow to select EMA 1??? only EMA 2...
My strategy is based on EMA1 and EMA 5, to be clear

...you were serious? Now I feel bad. :/

To illustrate the comedy I found in your post:

Here we have two 5 minute charts.

One is a a chart where I've set the colour scheme to blacken out the candles and applied a 1 period EMA indicator.

The other chart is a line chart.

I won't tell you which one is which.

For a moving 'average' to be calculated (EMA, SMA, etc..) it needs to average in the closing price over a given amount of periods.. but if the period is set to 1, then it's just the closing price of that period, exactly how a line chart is plotted. So really, a 1 period moving average isn't a moving average at all, since it hasn't averaged anything... it's just drawing lines between each bar's closing price.

In other words, just use a line chart and toss on a 5 period EMA and you'd have the same 'fast line / slow line' crossover you're looking for.

Look, Jack!
I am not newbie in FOREX. As I said before, I have a specific strategy that is based on EMA 1 and EMA 5 and how EMAs "dance" on candlesticks (I need to see it) and other indicators like Slow Stoch that MT4 does not have. But FXCM TS2 has these indis and I like how they are calculated (if you compare several indis between MT4 and TS2 you will notice they show different data).
The other important factor is that I can set Shift for EMA1.
Now peace?

Hi Julian,

What I would recommend is using the SMA 1 period which will be the same thing as EMA 1 period. I'm afraid that Jack is correct in this regard. When you choose 1 as the period, it isn't averaging anything. It's simply displaying the price of the selected period since there are no additional periods to average it against whether it be an exponential, smoothed or weighted moving average.

Hi roughtrader,

Could you PM the link to me if you still have it or the next time it gives you this error. I'm going to have the demo open on my side as well to test the next time we send out a pop up message to test.

Daily FX looks to be all free to me with a quick account registration, it's only the Daily FX+ which needs a real FXCM account.

The Price alerts sent to your mobile for free is a very useful feature.
Nothing to it, but to do it!!! Stick to the plan FOOL!!!!

Hi qp2,

For DailyFX PLUS you can get full-time access with a live FXCM account. So what you could do is open a live MT4 account, and then you will login to DailyFX PLUS with your live account username and password.

Happy Friday to everyone!

Jason

Congratulation to FXCM for better performance in Q4 2011. I just read your news over Business Wire and found it again in your website:

http://ir.fxcm.com/phoenix.zhtml?c=2...585&highlight=

Probably this good news will help to reduce spread for all pairs in year of 2012

cheers

Hello,

Is anyone else having these same problems on the FXCM MT4 Servers?

http://i41.tinypic.com/11uhh1s.jpg

This kind of thing happens all the time. I'm logging on to this forum to ask Jason, as nobody in FXCM tech support seems to know what the problem is, why it keep happening, or when the problem will get fixed.

Trying to run forward and/or back-tests against this kind of data corruption, is impossible, if you are anything less than a Swing Trader.

Jason, how long will this kind of problem continue? It is pointless to use the FXCM platform, if the data comes off the server in this kind of condition. There is obviously something wrong - the questions are:

  1. What's causing these types of errors in the data?
  2. What is FXCM doing about the problem right now?
  3. How long will it take for FXCM to solve this problem permanently?

Thank you for the help and the reply, Jason.

Regards,
iD

Hello Again,

Jason, unfortunately, I've found more data corruption:

http://i42.tinypic.com/2d6tdo0.jpg

This one comes from March 2, 2012, on the M5 chart.

Same question apply. Thank you.

Hello Again,

Once again, Jason, more data corruption off the MT4 demo servers. This one comes from March 5, 2012, GBPUSD M1. You can clearly see the splattering of data in spots near the center of the picture.

Same questions apply and thanks.
