Portfolio testing with a global close on profit?

Hi all,

So first question. Is portfolio testing possible in Mt4? I know it's 'more' possible in Mt5 but I've not looking that direction yet.

The kicker is that I want to test a basket trading idea. but that idea involves a close all on profit (to be optimized in terms of pips).

I did a search but didn't come up with too many answers.

any help going in the right direction would be great. Please and thank you!

Yes -- it is possible in MT4. An Expert Advisor (EA) can call APIs that access any and all account information -- including open and closed trades. Furthermore, any EA running in any MT4 session that is logged in to an account can close trades -- even those opened by a different EA running on a different machine. MT4 doesn't recognize machine boundaries -- only account boundaries.

So -- you can have one or more portfolio EAs that open and close trades, and a single "trade manager" EA that globally manages everything that goes on with that account.
