{quote} I know other people have chimed in--I was not available to post for a time--but look at your pitchfork, just look at it. Price had obviously changed behavior. Price was making higher highs and higher lows, crusing in a nice up trend. Then it flattened out and made a nice top, then it changed direction and behavior--and YOU have to recognize that and draw in the down sloping Median Line or pitchfork, which I think Surya did a few posts later. Pitchforks get a bad reputation because people treat them like the lagging 200 moving average indicator...

Sorry to hear about Tim. Were Tim and Shane still working together. I've fell off the trading scene for a couple of years and lost track. I don't see Shane mentioned on the MarketGeometry webstie. Thanks

Since May 2019, Shane has been teaching his own methodology on Language of Markets. His focus is primarily on market structure and price action rather than median lines.

Hi all, Like to share this indicator with all Andrew's median line practitioners. Scrutch was the one who asked me to code an improvement to MT4 pitchfork tool more than 6 months ago. With his help, it is now finally completed. I have been using Andrew's Median Lines (AML) for quite a while now in my trading and have found them to be very accurate and has helped me tremendously in my trading. It is with sincere hope that this indicator will help you in your trading using Andrew's median lines. The indicator is designed with ease of use in mind and...

Thanks for the reply, Jami. I found Language of the markets earlier and listened to the videos Shane has been putting up. In my opinion, his teaching is getting better. I mentored with Shane a number of years back and just listening to those videos, I can see some good changes in his certainty of methodology. Also the clarity is coming thru. I don't really like cryptic and he played that student discovery thing fairly often.

Ignore as I didnt read the full instruction that was clearly mentioned to rename the existing fork to AL1. Apology for not reading the nicely written instruction.

Three alternating pivots are needed for a median line.
Here the red modified ML outlines a downward path of price. Modified Schiffs essentially change a standard ML to a ML that follows the current path of price based on swings. Here red A to B was taken out by C therefore price was moving down.
With a modified Schiff a A to B projects C to D. D is the completion of the sine wave whether using a standard ML or modified Schiff ML. Once D is firmly in place a trade can be contemplated.
In this case the price action that led to red D was quite bullish. A blue modified Schiff here with its own ABC (D not yet put in) was inserted showing the most recent upward path of price. Notice Blue C took out Blue A to make a new relative high. The red arrows signify pivots on the way up and are a essential elements of price action that cannot be ignored. The bullish price action that led to blue C (a new relative high) could not be dismissed. A "bump/gift occurred when price fell back to the bullish price action origin shown by the orange rectangle.
A lot of information here but in regards to median lines it's elementary.

Understanding market structure and being able to map it effectively is essential to trading.

Swings or waves within trends are an effective paradigm to understand market structure. In the chart below A to B is a corrective wave and B to C is an impulse wave.

A,B,C effectively becomes a trend when C exceeds B.

Median lines take the distance from A to B and project it as C to D.

A standard median line and a modified Schiff median line are shown. Both are drawn from the same three points of market structure. Both can be used effectively. One is not better than the other.

These are some very basic concepts of median lines and are foundational to further understanding.

The idea that A to B projects C to D is foundational. It is the basis of the sine wave as shown. Once price successfully satisfies the projection the sine wave is completed and also the median line is completed.

Andrew's and others including Tim Morge stated that price will reach the median line about 80% of the time. This is essentially saying that A-B will successfully project C-D about 80% of the time. Of course this concept can successfully be used as a beginning to a trading strategy.

Using median lines to trade capitalizes on the movement of price between pivots. The three most important pivots are A,B,C because they form the beginning of a potentially completed median line. Remember its not complete until A,B,C,D are all completed.

Pivots often have readily identifiable price action that can be exploited. Not only the basic pivots of A,B,C and D but also pivots that form as price moves between A,B,C and D.

Once a ML has completed using it further can be done but can be troublesome. Why? Because its the movement of price between pivots that one should focus on and not necessarily that price may react to the lines of a ML as support and resistance. While a completed ML can continue to be used many begin using it as a channel which was not the intention of MLs. Below are 5 basic rules that Andrews populated regarding MLs. None use MLs as channels or as support and resistance.

Winston, in the last chart you posted, do you see a reason for a valid entry prior to price reaching the median line of the upward pitchfork?

Sure there are two valid entries but hindsight is 20:20 so with that in mind...
Median line traders know that after pivot C is in the probability of price reaching the median line is about 80%. Yet many are often disappointed and quickly find out that pivot C can be illusive. Understanding pivots is a whole discussion in itself so I won't bore you for now.

Entry 1: In this chart we know pivot C was valid given the advantage of hindsight. Price action afterwards tested the lower parallel and provided at least 2 opportunities to get long. The R:R by itself was worth the entry. I'm not a big fan of test/retest and I know Tim Morge taught this but I have found it unhelpful in my own trading but that's just me. I prefer a particular type of price action which again would be another discussion.

Entry 2: This is an entry that actually would have occurred after price reached the ML for the first time but it worth mentioning. The R:R is not that great. By the way R:R should be considered in every trade. Less that 3:1 I don't consider.

After price busted through sellers shown by the red rectangle a secondary standard ML could be inserted. This secondary ML shows price reaching its ML and the PA in this area is worthy of an entry. The SL is not bad and the R:R could be justified.
