any live ECN traders out there?

hi everyone,

first things first, cheers to everyone on ff, this is a great site, and i've been enjoying absorbing all the info here. almost about all the way thru the threads so yeah i'm bordering on information overload.

anyway,...

i'm about to make the switch from retail to ECN, and i've been demoing the platforms on the two main ECN-type brokers that everyone i'm sure knows about. unfortunately i'm not quite large enough to go thru the bigger ones yet,...fingers crossed

demoing, when youve got your system fine tuned, is kind of pointless, and i'm thinking its especially true on an ecn model, since your orders arent actually met by a middle man like with regular brokers.

so i'd like to hear from anyone out there trading live with an ecn, specifically during news time.

-my primary concern is liquidity, since youd need a counter party to take your bid/offer right?
- how easily are stop/limit/market orders filled during volatile periods?
- have your orders ever not been filled cos the price skipped over too tight an order, perhaps during NFP time?

demos dont tell you this stuff, so i'm hoping you guys can help out.

any comments / experiences about working on an ecn platform would be greatly appreciated.

never had a problem with any of the things you metion. my ecn broker mb trading. i had one partial fill in 8 months and that was last week on a 1mio they only fill me on 270,000.

I trade with mb too, no single problem til now... but i've start trading with them only 3 weeks ago.

glad to hear youre happy with mb cos i'm leaning that way as well.

its just a shame you cant hedge on them but thats not absolutely vital for me anyways

one thing about ecn brokers you can't hedge.

yeah i noticed that.

but no big deal anyways, it would just have been a nice additional tool to have in the tool box, so not exactly a deal breaker.

i think jagui meant no problems so far as opposed to until now.

altho if i'm mistaken do tell
I have used MB Trading's demo account. I can't get filled during news times. I have used stop orders and stop limit orders and basically NEVER got filled during news times. Does anyone else have this problem?

thats news to me never had this problem but then again i only use market orders

so moe youve pretty much always gotten fills on market orders during news time?

i didnt have a prob on their demo getting stops or limits filled, which funnyly enough is what actually worries me , hence the questions here.

i always got fill on markets orders during news never once had a problem with that i had one partial fill and that was around 2:00am est my order or for 1mill and i can close all my trades with ease.

ahh ok well 2am EST is understandable i suppose what with asia winding down and europe not past their first cup of coffee.

i mostly trade the us news so everything should be hunkydory

Hi,
Since you are already on it, could you also do a demo with Dukascopy and tell us about them. It seems you can hedge with them. Seems each trade is independantly opened and closed separately. I would like to know how it fairs.

80% of my trade or diung u.s. session i also trade some europe and i found something around 2:00am that sometime gives me a quick 30 pip. by the way have you seen the spreads on the major's lately at mb trading good stuff.

they do have the worst plaform i ever traded on im just now getting use to it. i like them for the spreads and 100:1 margin and of course excution

dude, i couldnt believe my eyes when i saw the spread invert!

i read about it, and altho everyone was right in that it doesnt happen often and doesnt stay that way long, it happens a helluva lot and it stays that way long enough if youre quick

i actually prefer their platform, love the level 2 stuff cos i do equities as well.

but youre right it is ugly as sin, and it definately wont win awards for being user friendly,... but once you get it, youre flying

i'll give dukascopy a run as well. but i firmly believe that different platforms appeal to different people. what i like you might find unbearable and vice versa. so do give it a whirl yourself as well.

lol that'll be 4 demos running at the same time :|

Wow, if they don't fill you during data, that also means you can't get out during data if it goes against your position!!!!
That could get really expensive really fast!!!!
Why would anyone put themselves in that position????
