Which Indicators to Which Pairs ??

Hi All ;

Since i am posting in the beginner's section ... well you might have guessed it ... yes i am a noob YET .

I am trying to study from previous experiences so i wanted to start a thread to help me and fellow noobs to understand more this new world .

We're noobs so we need indicators we cant read the charts now so we need help ..

So if anyone has a tested indicator that works for him/her please post it here giving us all the details .. What pair ? .. Which timeframe ? .. Stop loss ?? .. Take profit ?? .. Which platform ?? .. etc.

Also if you can attach it with the post that would be nice

I'm going through them now but some of the indicators in these strategies i dont have others i dont know their abbreviations ..

I posted this thread to help fellow noobs know the indicators and how to even set them on the charts .

I'm not looking for a holy grail or how to make fast money i am trying to know the indicators and trying to benefit from other's experience of people who tried certain indicators with certain pairs .. For me thats trying to learn

Please understand that I am not trying to be condescending here, I am really trying to help you learn.

There Is No Indicator that Works Best with any Given Pair. They All Fail at a Very Unpredictable rate. And that can cost you not only Money, but also, Emotional Reserve. Two very valuable commodities in this game.

The greater the understanding you have as to what actually drives Prices you have, the better you will be at predicting movement. Indicators Seldom drive Price.

I think you're misinterpreting Bemac. I've seen him help many traders on this forum. He isn't about "scaring" anybody. He's trying to save you some pain through lost time and money.

Notice he isn't telling you you can't make money doing this- he's trying to point you toward something better than indicators.

But if you want to go the route of 95% of traders...

I am very aware that he wants to help but i sense it everywhere that everyone is telling me to give it up and find something else ....

WHY didnt you do the same and most important WHY are you still here ???

I wouldn't discourage anybody from pursuing something I'm trying to find myself. You're a self-described "noob". I opened my first live account nearly two years ago and I'm not a profitable trader yet, so I place myself in the same boat with you- "noob".

That said, there are traders that are profitable using indicators, but I'll just sum up what I've found with this; I've seen the majority of profitable traders say that "the light bulb came on" for them when they 1) discovered the power of trading on support and resistance, or 2) studied market flow (who is moving prices?), or 3) studied price action, or a combination of the examples above.

I've never ever seen a trader on this forum or anywhere else say that their success in trading, their "aha!" moment came when they applied some certain "indicator". I might have missed somebody saying something like that- I don't read every post on every forum, but my point is there are ways to determine your level of success, some are better than others and [most of] the folk on this forum- especially those who've been around awhile just want to help people be the most successful they can be.

I hope that sounded like "encouragement".

Please don't take my post to mean "all indicators are crap". Dialist is one of the pros here and he says basically that he avoids indicators, but sometimes they have their place. That makes the most sense to me.

I think Bemac's premise for saying what he said was to get the focus away from indicators and onto trading. Most every noob starts off on the indicator track because indicators are convienient. "Dot is red- sell, bar rises above zero line- buy", seems to make things really simple but that really isn't trading and most times will fail you sooner than later.

If you want to avoid the pitfalls that most other beginners fall into, then you have to do what most beginners don't do- eschew indicators (initially) and learn the basics of trading.

You mentioned that you have been trading for 2 years and are still not profitable? From your initial balance are u negative or just haven't been able to consistently repeat gains?

I've blown out two accounts. I'm gaining on my third account, but my trades are selected very carefully, the criteria for entering must be "A+" (hmmm...). Therefore I'm in no hurry (another fatal characteristic of a noob).

I won't consider myself "profitable" until I reach breakeven and remain consistent thereafter.

ok i will choose this thread to write my point of indicators

i'm a live trader and i use indicators to drive my action
i buy and sell based on the indicators, i put my 2nd, 3rd position based on indicators i even close my positions using indicators
i don't trust my feeling and i also don't trust the news

this fact however doesn't lead me to dig into the best indicators or the holy grail indicators or any of that stuff. here is something that i believe to be true

1. with no exception each indicator has its own weakness you need to spot this first before using any indicator

2. you need to know how to calculate your indicator manually, this will help you to spot when does the indicator failed you and what should you do when that happen

during stop hunt or near the news many many many indicators failed and unfortunately people would just blindly follow them

3. indicator doesn't help you to predict the market, read this carefully, IT WILL ONLY HELP YOU TO PICK UP FEWER SIGNALS, even signals generated by the indicators might turn into false ones. in forex the more signals you take the more loss you suffer

most people get this wrong as they expect only good signals from their indicators, trust me there will be no 100% correct indicators, personally i believe all indicators are only 50% correct. you can combine severals to increase the percentage but you will never get near 100% but that will be enough to start profiting from forex. using more indicators doesn't make you a better player, it only helps you to pick up fewer bets

my suggestion is to find max 3 indicators which able to tell you this

1. entry signal
2. stop signal
3. rebound or reentry signals (incase you missed the entry signals)
4. and use them in LIVE trading (smallest amount but enough to drive you crazy) no demo no paper trading
