Using the same historical data folder for many MT4 installs

Hi there,

Is there anyone who could explain me how can I save some disk space?

I’m using many MT4 installations for back testing. Each of them needs the historical data in the default folder. That means I keep the same data which requires many gigabytes on my SSD at many folders.
Is there a possibility to keep the historical data in only one folder and make some kind of redirection for each MT4 installation so all of them knows where the historical data is stored?

Thank you in advance for explanation,
Cookerx

If your file system is NTFS, you may create junctions for sharing any folders (mklink /J).

Hi, just want to make sure, do I then share/link
...\history\downloads
and
...\history\xxx-Live_xx
?

Or do I have to share the whole history folder for running multiple mt4 instances simultaneously sharing historic data?

Greetings All.
I`m working on a SpreadSheet app to analize historical trade date that will use CSV. files available in MT4 my question is where are these files located & how do i access them ? Could they be automatically exported from MT4 to the SpreadSheet ?

Does anyone maybe have any info/experience with which specific folders to link as a minimum for running multiple MT4 instances on the same historic data in order to save space on my hard drive?

before win10 we could just create a .bat file and open as many instances of the same MT4 we wish. but it seems not to work with win10. In case you want to try, just create a .bat file like this example (it opens 2 instances, add lines and open more) :

start "" "D:\FOREX\terminal.exe" /e %1
start "" "D:\FOREX\terminal.exe" /e %1

Or you can check these tips on https://www.itechtics.com/run-multip...am-windows-10/

I tried something here and I was able to open one more instance. I have my mt4 icon fixed on task bar. So I opened as admin holding CTRL+SHIFT, then opened another instance just by holding SHIFT and clicking again in the same icon.

P.S. I know this is not what you asked as it will have the same account number. but just changing the magic number will do the job.

Thanks for your reply
I have no problem running multiple instances of MT4 and I prefer running them from separate terminals.

All I want to do is share the history data between them. Creating junctions work very well on Windows 10.
So I'm hoping someone knows exactly which history folders is necessary to be shared between multiple MT4 instances.
