Question, do you mean that you want a line drawn horizontally on the indicator?

Hi Trustdoc7

Assuming I understand what you mean by a signal line, the attached SMI indicator has one.

Hi Hanover,
Thanks for all the great work that you do absolutely free, it is much appreciated.
This indicator doesn't update properly.
I have tried to modify the code, but I am too stupid to be able to sort it out. Unfortunately, I am so arrogant that I don't understand my limitations.
I would be very grateful if, when you have the time, you could look at the code and address this issue.
I know that you have said that you are taking a rest, but I really doubt that you have anything better to do. So get on with it and sort it out pronto.

Unfair.
You are making something out of my posting, I never even remotely said or meant.

I am glad that you recognised the sarcasm.
Hanover is a highly respected and valued member of this forum and we are in danger of losing him because he receives so many requests that don't even include the simple word "please"
A request without a please is not too different from a demand.
Ask nicely and you may get the response that you want

I understand the point and will keep it in mind.
But please consider two things:

I didn't write "please" on purpose, because that sounded to me even more demanding ("PLEASE!" or "Pleaaasee ...").
Therefore I asked a neutral question (no demanding, no begging).
I'm not a native english speaker and might fail on subtle connotations of the language.

If you write "please", it means what it is supposed to mean ... nothing else.

Took me a moment or two to figure out who was asking what from whom. LOL

Looks like I posted this indy 6 years ago. I very much doubt that I wrote it myself, as I've never used iMAOnArray(), and I don't know the math formula for stochastic momentum. So I guess I must have found it via a Google search, in an attempt to help the OP.

Anyway (and assuming that I understand what's being asked here)........ try the attached modification.

Now, to prove that this last exchange of posts hasn't been a total waste of everybody's time, and that I haven't just wasted the last 15 minutes of my life.......
if somebody could demonstrate how SMI provides more profitable entry signals than all of the zillions of other indicators already out there, I'd be eternally grateful. Pretty, pretty pleaaaaaaase.

LOL

Hi Hanover,

thanks a lot for modifying the code.
I already posted a corrected version above I found elsewhere.
As I mentioned before, first I tried to correct it by myself, using the canonical approach described in: http://book.mql4.com/samples/icustom
There was at least some reason to assume that you worked with this indicator, since you posted it.
Why ask somebody else, if you could ask a top reference like hanover?
Now this thread has a full functional SMI indicator, that's at least a tiny improvement and not a total waste.
If this is a better indicator or not I dont know, William Blau thought so.

By the way, I'm still using your Daily LinesBoxes, great indicator.

Sven

Sorry Sven, I apologize for my cryptic sense of humor.

I was fairly new to forex back in 2007, and I've meanwhile worked with hundreds of indicators, and posted several hundred times on various forums; I don't remember posting that one. Perhaps my memory is suffering from a combination of old age and burnout.

Anyway, I'm glad you have the indicator working.

David

Hanover,

The interest in the SMI might be because of a recent you tube video by Anne Marie Baiynd. She uses a very slow D% and uses the slow line's position to indicate that the share or index is in upward momentum or downward momentum.

Funny... I stumbled on that same video, while searching for solutions to get my Metastock local data working.
It is a most comprehensive explanation on the use of the Stochastic Momentum Index, which is referred to as SMI.
And, Hanover, you will find you definitely have not wasted your 15 minutes!
Came back to FF looking for the formula for SMI, but this SMI is probably a bit different. Happy for anyone to clarify.

I am new to Trading and would like to know the usage of SMI and its effectiveness. I would greatly appreciate, if anyone could guide me with the Parameters to be set in SMI and the interpretation of the graph to identify the correct Entry/Exit points for SELL/BUY trades. Also, appreciate recommendation to quantify Stop-loss and Profit Targets
