If you are making money trading forex, please post your results here.

Suggestions: weekly/monthly/yearly gains (as a % of starting capital or in real $ terms or in pips)

On second thought, even if you're not making money, post your results here.

Hmm interesting... I didnt think people would be so shy to share their results.

I just want to get a sense of what kind of returns are typical in Forex. Ive read many times that only 5% of people who trade forex make money, but I dont believe that. I started trading about a month ago and have made a sizable return of 8% for the month (this is not stellar, but if I can keep this up for a year, it will add up).

This is the largest and the most volatile market, such a high returns is of course achievable, high returns wouldn't mean high risk as well, risk also comes from not knowing what one is doing, why a result is needed? go to journal threads
me doubt of 5% people only making through Forex, where ever is it stated? by big guys?

If you are still making 8% a month after a year, then you can call yourself a trade, after just a month, it means nothing... nothing at all

I'm trading full time, making good money. About 20% a month on average i would say... account is still below 100k USD, i expect that % to drop as my account gets bigger...

I dont believe it either. I think it's nearer 2% whose accounts are positive after 1 year. Sorry to burst your bubble, but 1 month in the world of forex is relatively meaningless. It's always a good idea in my view to look at it on a yearly basis. Anybody can get lucky for a month or even a couple of months (I am not for one second saying this is you, because I don't know you, then it all goes wrong.

How about 25% a week... I did it!!!

Of course I lost that and more the next week or so. I have funded a few live accounts (all minis) and have not made money.

For the last year it has been 100% demo trading and will continue that way for awhile yet before I am confident enough to trade live.

8% in a month is good. Anything is good as long as there is a positive sign in front of it. Once you start doing that for a few months in a row, don't get cocky. That is when you lose 50% in a month. Or even more. Then you start looking for a trade to make. Which in turn is usually bad. Then, if that happens, the next month could be even worse. And if a person doesn't push themselves to achieve what we are set out to do, they give up.

I had a week a while ago that I had a 500% return. That is no joke either. Instead of sticking to the plan which I do have, I thought I could find things that weren't there. That 500% return is half gone.

Hi Nacho
I've been trading 'live' since 2001.I've only traded forex since April 2006.Prior to that I traded only gold and silver. I use MT4 charts, but I trade CFD's and 'spreads' using a spreadtrading platform, the same one I've always used.
I no longer trade gold & silver due to work commitments,as I daytraded the NY open only and it currently clashes with work.Ironically, I made more money trading gold and silver spreads than I do currently trading forex! The opposite should be true!(and this is why forex appealed to me) ...because...
1-Precious metals is a tiny market compared to forex.
2-Many insiders believe the market to be manipulated by the hedge funds and Citibanks,Goldman Sachs' of this world, so charting analysis may sometimes be futile, wheras it seems impossible to manipulate such a large market like Fiber or Cable.
3-It doesn't trend for as long as forex does.
4-Precious metals are much, much more volatile.
5-much smaller spread in forex

Truth be told, I was losing money trading forex for about one year with breakout trades. Then I discovered ForexFactory and this persuaded me to give it another shot, albeit a much more conservative shot.At the moment I trade using Daily charts instead of intraday, and I am currently livetesting 2 systems, Jacko's system, and Phil Nel's 4hr MACD, though I have been successfully live trading Phil's system for a few months. The system I predominantly live trade with is my own, developed since my commodities days and now refined thanks to FF and it's wonderful contributors.I only trade 2 or 3 times per month. At present, I've increased my trading accounts, demo and live, to above breakeven.Definitely not a roaring success, but a work in progress.Hopefully, once I have enough of 'the house's money',I will up the ante and then make a final decision on my forex future based on that.

Forgot to mention...IMHO...the only way to know how many traders on FF are actually making money is for them to post their live trades on the forum. Unfortunately, we cannot take anyone's word as to how successful he/she is. Some traders I know, have a system that is 80% accurate, and there are many successful systems out there, but how they manage their trades puts their account in arrears at the end of the day.Others manage good gains on a 50% success rate. The proof is in the pudding.Trading statements can be doctored, but posting your live trades cannot.

Doji,

Thanks for the post! Its always great to hear stories from tried and true traders! Thanks for the advice and for sharing.

I see so much potential in this market, but with so many distractions (crazy leverage, crazy brokers, news spikes, etc) its hard to stay focused on doing what you need to do to stay in the game.

Hope there is for those that believe and listen to the Market.

Doom lies ahead for those that thwart it.

Tip for recent arrivals:
The Market is the epitamy of the proverbial ShapeShifter. First Impressions are nothing more than a lie.
