I am new to MetaTrader and am looking to see if anyone can tell me if this program has the ability to not only back test trading systems but to also optimize them by running through different variable ranges to reach the most profitable setting. I know that MetaStock has this feature but can some please let me know if MetaTrader can also do this.

As well, can I have the opinion from traders who have built mechanical trading systems with MetaTrader if this program really is the best one to use or not. I have also hear that Trade Stations Easy Language is also widely used.

Please share your thoughts.

Thanks, Steven

you could do this by ticking on the 'Optimization' and then you modifies your range of inputs that needs optimization (you do this by ticking on each variables you need to optimize)

IMHO, the best program is the one that suits your needs

Happy testing!

Here is a link to an Optimization Procedure that I put together. I hope it makes sense and is useful.

Download the Optimization_Procedure.doc.zip file.

I hear MQL is so complicated comparing to many others, but unsure I am not coder myself.

The optimization is certainly great option. Especially helpful to find individual currency settings that works best for the nature / personality of the cross.

However I do not know how this process is made by 'coding'
