Please Help! How to get MT4 (build 670) to send email alerts?

For the life of me, I cannot set up my MT4 correctly to send email alerts to my gmail, or any other mail server for that matter. I've tried hmailserver, GMX mail, etc. I've searched the internet everywhere for a solution, but all seem to be applicable only for older builds (pre 509?) Now I'm on build 670.

I'm not even trying to do anything fancy. Just a simple price alert, using the built-in price alert function in the platform itself.

Has anyone figured out how to set up email alert for this particular version of MT4?

Thank you so much for your generous help. I've tried what you suggested, followed each step exactly. It seems to be ok when I test and trigger one of my indicators, to see if email alert is being sent out. No error message. I get "Mail: ... has been sent" But for some reason, i don't get any mail in my gmail. So I'm wondering where the mail went, if it was sent out?!

I use the same gmail for from and to fields. Are you still using this solution? And it's still working for you? I think it might be platform related? Which broker do you use?

As I said, email is working fine for me with build 670 with the solution above. So, my mt4 screenshot configuration in that link basically forwards the alert right to my cell phone, it does not also put the alert in my gmail inbox. I did not want it to do that - it's easier for me to maintain or cleanup alerts in one place. If you want alerts to go only to your gmail, try also putting your gmail address in the "To" box for the mt4 configuration. The fact that you got the "Mail...has been sent" is good, and you are almost there. The broker does not matter at all.

I continued to have problems getting mail to deliver. Still cannot get Hmail to work properly. Worse than that, some brokers' platform evidently will have issues when trying to set up email alerts. Specifically for me, it was the FXDD Mt4 platform that gave me most problems. After setting up email alert function in the platform itself, I got locked out of the platform completely. On start-up the platform just freezes and remains that way no matter what I do. Removing indicator files for the indicators I had loaded on my charts, in case the indicators were causing the freeze, did not help either. In the end it was clear to me that it directly came from setting up the email alert function. (not related to hmail, but the built-in email function of the platform build 600+) This entire build series is just not stable at all. I ended up losing all my charts that I marked up and never saved templates for.

Anyways, now starting over. And I'm just going to stay away from setting up email function in my MT4 platforms, because I don't want to risk facing the same problem again. So I tried using an MT5 platform for the first time, for the sole purpose of using its email alert function. And guess what, it works flawlessly and sends out email alerts instantly, without the use of a SMTP server like Hmail. I found a website that had all the SMTP settings for most of the popular mail servers (https://www.arclab.com/en/amlc/list-...rver-list.html ) I input the provided information into MT5 email configuration, using my hotmail to send alerts to my gmail account. And now my alerts arrive in gmail pretty much instantly the moment price alerts are triggered. I'm really loving MT5 now, at least for its alert capability. Built in price alerts are a breeze to insert on charts, and can be dragged to modify. Easier to use than any price alert indicators I've come across.

So problems solved for me. I'm just using MT5 to do my price alerts exclusively, and continue to use MT4 to do my charting (because I still need my MT4 custom indicators for my trading), so I would not have to worry about MT4 locking me out due to the email issue again. I'm happy.

MXT 4 email alerts. I have set these up and when I press the test buttom I receive the amil alert no problem however when I set an alarm on MXT 4 and select email this appears in the alarm tab as alarm not email. I go in and again change this to email and when price action hits the alarm no email sends only the alarm sounds does anyone else have this problem?
