Anybody long in GBP/NZD a few minutes ago? I was short, had some profit and had just moved my stop loss to pretty close to current price. Stop loss didn't execute until 140 pips beyond my stop loss.

took 2 long positions today around 0.960, which are still open. bought more after the news.

Personally I was short and got destroyed. But I think the price paid was well worth the lesson learned. The phrase, "buy the rumor and sell the news" comes to mind. An interest rate hike of 3.5% was expected (rumored) on the NZD and it traded accordingly (GBP/NZD went down). But just think about WHEN news is released; if it turns out to be 3.5%, then nothing really happens because it was priced in already, and if rumor was false and it was lower, then GBP/NZD would have shot up. So either way, i should have probably have taken my profit before news....

This can happen easily on such strong movement like that, the broker won't honor you SL and you can have a bad drawdown or even blow up your account if you don't have a good money management, this can also happen during the market open on Sunday, even if your SL is above your entry point and there is like 100 pips gap, you can be stopped out with a loss. Also another thing to consider, if you want to trade the announcement by placing pending buy and pending sell orders on certain levels, the broker can fill you with a huge gap, my broker once gave me 50 pips gap from my entry point and it doesn't worth complaining about it to the broker.

I think the best thing to do is take your profit and go fish somewhere or if you out of the market, wait for the dust to set and trade accordingly.

If you bought today around 1.96 area and before the announcement the price was at 1.9567, you were in temporary a loss, what happen to remeolb and stf 77 could have happened to you or anyone else, I hope you aware of that, I tell that because we tend to get confident of consecutive winnings, but one big loss can sweep all winning trades. But congratulations anyways on your trade, last week I went long @ 1.9398, got 245 pips and walked away, should I have held until today I'll be extra 140 pips in the green, but it's better to be out of the market wishing your in, than be in the market wishing you're out.
Happy trades to everyone.

Took a trade fading the NZD rate hike rally. 50+ pips not too bad.
Normally I stay away from the rate hike section, I give half day to let the price to settle down.
Took a short after price slip under 1.9850
