{quote} No of course I don't mind, its demo at the moment as experimenting with some new strategies on the 1 min charts, but looking to go live again next week if I get some positive results this week. Basically I am trying to catch the London breakout trades by taking entries in the strongest trending pair through the London open. My theory is whichever 100 lwma is sloping the steepest then thats where the London money is going so jump on board grab a handful of pips with the first push then hold 2nd TP until the trend finishes. Well thats the...

Feel free to post here as often as you want.

Very nice trading.

I suggest to keep your winner and scale out as well if you like that sort of thing.Im working on keeping my winner as well

I did trade a trend system in the past and I can suggest that you split your trade in 2 positions of 0.05 each = 0.1

Then TP 1 = 8 pips @ 0.5

TP 2 then gets split into 5 X 0.01 lots

For example

TP 2.1 = 10 pips
TP 2.2 = 12 pips
TP 2.3 = 15 pips
TP 2.4 = 20 pips
TP 2.5 = a reversal of the MA's or change of CCI

You will have a lot of BE trades though that is just how it is with trend trading IMHO

All tps are relative to your SL

TP1 should equal your SL at the very least to give you a minimum of 1:1 R:R

BUT , there is plenty to consider as should be relative to the ATR of the pair your trading (plenty of back testing though )

Just my 2 cents and please feel free to ignore it completely.

Thanks Rooi ,Why would I ignore it???

In fact on the contrary, I very much appreciate you taking the time to answer, (would put a smiley face here if I could find the little buggers???? Any idea how to get them back????)

No I really appreciate it but if you don't trade with the trend, which I think is very dangerous on any time frame never mind the 1 min, how do you decide on a trade??? Is it when the 15 min turns over?? Then look for a trade in same direction???

The reason I am always looking to hold is quite simply that I believe the secret to being a succesful trader is not so much the correct strategy, I've seen many successful ones, but in fact money management and making sure your winners are bigger than your losers, in fact a lot bigger than your losers.

The optimum of that of course is to enter with a 1 min stop in the direction of the daily trend, 20 pip stop, 1000 pip run???? To that end I am changing my top trenders to show the 1 min top trender alongside the daily top trender and when they agree , hey presto, a runner!!!!

Well thats the theory anyway. (now wheres those bloody emotions need a dreamy face????)
Feel the Fear and do it anyway!!!

Hi Clive, hope you don't mind me joining in this discussion, you raise some important points worthy of some open discussion.
Trend is a very large part of many traders' decision making process, and understandably so. However, it doesn't have the same level of importance to everyone. I for one rarely ever use it.

Let me say straight away here, that does not make either of us wrong, it just means we have different perspectives and trading mentalities both of which could be as good (or bad) as each other.

Everyone has to somehow prove that whatever method/strategy they intend to use is going to be profitable. As you said, your winners have to yield more than your losers. So we all achieve our chosen strategies with this common goal. BUT, we all do this differently. Many will do it as you have chosen, ie using trend in the belief that your entries will have a decent probability of profit. As I said earlier there is nothing wrong with that, I have no criticism to make. If you can create a consistent profitable strategy around this criteria and it is working for you, you're comfortable with it, then you've cracked it, you will enjoy profitable trading.

The point to be made here is that "trading with trend" isn't the only way, it isn't exclusive to profitable trading, there will always be numerous ways to trade any good method some of which will be very adaptable and others that may well respond better to trending markets, S&R, Pivots etc.. In much the same way as some will say you can't make profit trading 1min you have to trade daily or 4hour charts etc., it really is up to the individual to find their own comfort level with trading and that will come in as many varieties as there are people. It doesn't run that only one way can be right.

The only "wrong" methods/strategies are those that consistently lose money.

Developing a strategy for consistent profit on 1m t/f isn't easy, it has some very distinct characteristics and behaviour which all has to be factored in. You are clearly working hard to find the optimum strategy for you based on trend, I'm sure you'll succeed with that and I wish you every success with it.
strada.

Hi Strada

Hope all is well

Thanks for the post about 1min trading,I would have said something very similar but it sounds much better coming from you with a lot more experience and much better performance

@ Clive

The only thing I will add is to look for a pattern or setup that happens often and build around it.Be very specific with it so you can test the edge you are creating. The more vague one is about entries and exits the more frustrating it becomes.I see often you get frustrated because of the BE trades. If you are very specific about what you want the trade to do it will be less frustrating and you will accept that it is a necessary evil.I for one at the moment hate BE trades and have to accept that I will kill winners early Im not willing to risk the profit I have.It will change over time but like I said we need to be very specific about what decisions we make .

Wishing you all the best

Rooi

I got a question for an indicator you posted earlier called the clive trend cci. In properties I've set the zero cross alert to true however no alert was triggered. Do you know what could be the issue?

BTW. I am looking for a pullback entry on the gbpusd to grab a few pips before high impact news

thanks
