Youtube trading videos

Hopefully this thread can help uncover some of the really useful trading related utube videos - if there are any.


I would ask that to help this become a concise and informative thread (rather than a rambling mess) that you only post videos that are genuinely offering some insight into a trading matter, or give advice that is of a high quality.

Please give a brief summary of any video you post, say why you think it's helpful and ideally list a few of the significant points to help readers decide if the video is for them - or if they would want to pass on to the next offering.

So I'll begin with this one, it's not perfect, it's clearly from a commercial outfit (as many utube vids are) that I would in no way endorse. Please feel free to completely ignore the trading course they offer at the end. You can't learn this game in 'minimum time' - if that's what you want you don't have the commitment to succeed.

The main thing I like about this one (apart from the beautiful intelligent lady who is having fun) is its simplicity and the tips are actually quite good. I would question a few of them, especially those saying you can only make money on long-term trends and advising you not to day-trade. If anyone would like to discuss the tips on offer or give their view on them please feel free - that's the way to learn. And ofcourse the same goes for any videos posted here, if you want clarity ask away and hopefully the poster can fill you in.

That's a good one 60min, an excellent no nonsense intro to a type of breakout trading giving a few lovely pointers. Obviously SL can be very tight with this method which may be it's greatest strength. I would add that on some 'build ups' back into the levels for 3rd (or more) touch you can look for higher lows which gives the move a sense of 'gathering momentum' and possibly more of a chance of a strong breakthrough? I would also say an entry method could be a buy or sell order 3-5 pips on the other side of the level. This would prevent you fluffing things up or panicking as the move quickly pans out.

Continuing from your first vid, the bars prove more visually understandable than candles for this strategy, closes and opens not at all relevant.

An excellent warning for anyone new to the currency market at the beginning of this short one. Plus a tip about using 'fundamentals' eg financial news events to inform your trading decisions. Some traders only look at the charts and trade based on what they see. Some use both the charts and take note of financial news releases which may impact on the currency pair they are watching - see the Calender link at top of this page. If you don't want to trade based around news releases you should still be aware of their timings as bad/good/unexpected news could quickly kill your open trade.

Appreciate the input but technically that's not a youtube vid. They do have some vids but not trading related. Nevertheless an interesting organization.

Here we have a TV profile from the 1980's of a group of New Zealand foreign exchange dealers. What you see here are some of the 'types' who are the big players in the markets we also try to win on. What can you say about them? Their work ethic is immense. If you want to succeed maybe you need to become the market as much as these guys have become the market. A long one but well worth the watch.


Two foot notes-
1) the link below the vid on youtube is for a 'black box' autobot - these do not work so don't waste your money. If you want to give your money away then give it to a charity not these jokers.
2) after watching this, look up the young trader in it called 'John Key' to see what he does now.

This is Hugh Hendry, he runs a very successful London based Hedge Fund and he became fairly high profile in recent years due to his controversial/contrarian opinions on the progress of the global financial crisis.

You do see him checking over some currency prices at 4:00 with a colleague but their main business it appears is buying or selling securities based on fundamentals - including global/euro market trends or inhouse forecasts. Hughs strengths are obviously his analysis and information management skills, his clear (possibly unbiased) vision and his willingness to act on what he predicts - be it inline with market consensus or not. As a retail forex trader what can you learn from this video? Maybe that to succeed in this game you need to work hard, you need to be inquisitive, open to apparently radical ideas, be able to listen, you need to be able to see the bigger picture and manipulate information in your head effortlessly. It may also help to have a personal sense of style and a huge monitor on your wall - but the rest of your monitors can be surprisingly modest.

One method of monitoring and then trading range breakouts which attempts to avoid multiple stop-outs.

After watching this vid you might want to think about how you will judge the pullbacks. This pullback has 3 opposite (to the range breakout) candles and the third of those doesn't go much higher than the previous one suggesting the breakout move may be about to continue down. Also note that the second two candles on the pullback have tails above, suggesting that there are more sellers than buyers in the range/time covered by the candles.
