This is something that smot newbies ask themselves when they are not able to continue forex trading and they lose hope yet there are some other newbies in the same kind of situation but they are still doing their best to trade and some end up being good trader. You don't lose hope if you are focused on what you want. There are people who joe frex because they are directed to it and thither are those who join forex because they chose to on their own baisis. These are the people who have always know about forex but never actually considered it and finally give it a chance. If you are a determined newbie then you will be able to make it in forex.

The best way not to lose motivation is to think about the profit you can make.

I've only been at it 6 months but I guess you know yourself whether this is for you, it seems no one will recommend it but if you're draw to it then thats that. I started of controlled at the start and it was going too well, then got into the wild swings I read others experiencing which I told myself I'd obviously never do myself because I'm better then that and lost all my profits, its only made me want to get better though and spend more time on learning this. You've got to take chances if you feel they're right for you.

generally traders lost motivation above all when making a losses , they try to recover this losses by trade over and over and lost almost whole equity , its a very common issue in there.

From what i have learned, i feel if you maintain consistency, don't give up, keep increasing your knowledge and know when to stop then you can do really good in trading.

10 years is big time. But kinda like your never leave trying approach. Forex requires us to be that focused. Results wont be seen in a year or so. It needs, patience, effort and practice. If we want to hang in there, we have to work hard with determination.

Demo trading is only for practice and the real money is not involved so after some time we can lose our intrest and can leave trading on demo trading but when we start real trading and our real money involved then our interest will be high and we will gain more momentum and start making money.

I think that one of the main reasons is that many traders seem to fail to remain motivated is that they have too high expectations. They start trading without a good background and without spending enough time on analysis. A demo account is important and a new trader should spend some months trying out trading there as even if it is not actual trading it does help you get used to trading. Then it is important to set a plan, and to carry out careful analysis, both fundamental as well as technical. It is better to take things slowly, step by step, then rush and so a risk management plan is critical.

You can make money on Forex not only by trading manually.
So everyone has their own choice.

Oooh, another thread resurrected from the dead! I'd say if anyone is asking themselves this there is no universal method to continue working on something that may seem hopeless at times as you struggle to turn consistent profit. Problem I think is we all start expecting to get good quicker than is usually possible, trading is hard, and so we realize how much more work we have left and get discouraged, or worse we worry maybe we aren't as smart as traders who are successful. What I did is I opened a tiny live account and traded it alongside doing the work I still needed to do. I lost that account, blew it up, but it kept me engaged and cemented how important my learning and testing really was. There is some emotion involved with real money in play even tiny amounts of it, if you feel you've lost the drive you can always try that as long as it's money you won't cry over when you lose it, you're very likely to lose it if you're not 100% prepared. If you get lucky though try not to get carried away and dump a lot of money in you'd otherwise save for when you're 100% ready, markets and luck can change on a dime.

It can be hard to stay motivated, however if you are determined to make it as a trader you need to keep learning.

If you're slowly losing interest in it, then maybe this is not for you.
Self- motivation and self- discipline is the key to anything in life.

There is someone I know in real life with verifiable trading results that is consistently profitable, making a decent living from daytrading. Not to be mean, but he definitely isn't the brightest bulb on the ceiling. So if he can do it, so can I
Trying my best.

I've been studying...and reading, and getting advice from people on FF (who are all lovely ppl, this is by far my favorite forum). and now i think i've hit a plateau or even almost started to lose interest. i'm still demo-ing, so i thought maybe it's time to open up a live account, since i heard that it's a totally different experience. i'm just scared to though. how'd you guys make the plunge?

In order not to lose motivation, you need to have income. If it is not there, there is little you can do.

Motivation is like food, you need it every day. One time motivation which got you started on the path of forex trading is not enough to get you through it. You need to remind yourself why you started, what your goal is, do you still want to achieve it. If the answer is yes, you should motivate yourself to keep going. Reading success stories charges me up, and also setting small goals and achieving them.
