Seems like their live server has gone on the fritz again for the last 30 mins. And this with two live trades going! I don't need the extra excitment of having to worry over the reliability of my broker's servers. I'm done with this outfit.

I should add that I've not received a reply to my request for an explanation as to why these interruptions take place and what steps are being taken to rectify the situation. I've sent another email but my mind's pretty much made up to take my business elsewhere at this stage.

edit: ...finally back up after a downtime of approximately 1 hour

edit #2: looks like I spoke too soon. up for a few mins, then down again for well over an hour now.

I called since last "big" downtime problem.
Well, all I can get from them was they are sorry that happened...
Anyway, I closed the account.

I am still searching for a broker.

Here is what I've notice.
1) Oanda - dropped couple of times, but it came back up immediately.
But, their charting software is very poor. Also, they margin is 20:1 (I think. That is what my demo account shows. Since I didn't decided to go with them yet, I didn't call to get any info on margin)
2) GFT - Their platform is not as simple as others. Require some learning. Also, some of tool on my demo account is not working.
3) FXCM - I heard so much bad thing about this broker. I didn't try myself much at all, but I notice their charting software is poor.

Anyone satisfied with their broker? Could you tell us your experience with them?

I've been using CMS for about 9 months now, and all I can say is that I have finally become completely fed up with their incompetence. I swear they must not want to succeed. That is the only explanation I can come up with unless they employ monkeys as their tech staff.

There is simply no excuse for the amount of times I have found the platform to be unreliable. I have missed at least three NFP releases, not to mention the platform has been shaky lately even during non-volatile market conditions.

I have demo traded through Interbank FX for a bit, and Metatrader seems very reliable, has some pretty powerful charting, and takes a fraction of the resources that VT Trader demands. My only dilemna is that I have built three trading systems to work with VT Trader and I was very happy with them. I really loathe the thought of learning to code new systems to work with Metatrader so perhaps for a while at least I will continue to use CMS mostly as a demo charting package, and only trade live with them if stability returns.

It truly is a shame that CMS offers probably the best free charting available, but they just can't get their stuff together.

I am also thoroughly fed up with CMS. I have recommended them in the past to others, because I am hooked on their software; however, the reliability is completely unacceptable. I closed a trade this morning at about 10 pips shy of where I should have closed it because I was unable to access the software.

At this point, I am in a bit of a quandry. I enjoy their software, but when it is unaccessable, what good is it???

I plan on continuing to use CMS, but I think I should open a back up account with another broker - that way, in the event that I am "locked out" of VTrader, I will be able to have access to the markets through an alternative broker.

What brokers offer automated trading? My system is built for CMS. Any suggestions would be helpful.

Just a thought. On their front page of their website Cms states that they will "whitelabel" their system to other brokers. Now in the programming world whitelabeling refers to selling your software in a slightly changed format to others under a new name. Also I hang out on the VT Trader forums a bit and they won't let you discuss brokers, especally Cms. Could there be another broker out there that uses a form of VT Trader under a different name? Could be worth some research. Just a thought.

I have not received an answer from CMS neither. Don't understand why it takes them three full days to "invent a plausible explanation".

I read that some will discontinue using CMS as their broker. I still will give them the benefit of the doubt, before last Friday I have been a very satisfied client for 8 months. But the news of more downtime is alarming......

After demo trading with CMS for about 8 months, I was soon going to
open a live account with them, I am considering switching to Interbank FX after the CMS crash last Friday and connection problems afterwards. I received a brochure from IBFX while at the Forex Expo and reviewed it and some others.
I am considering them based on all the features available for the small investor. What I like the most is no dealing desk, so hopefully there will not be any manipulation of the market with them. Also, I like that they have 2 pip spread on EUR/USD, MT4, and mini-accounts. My only concern is that their stops are not guaranteed. Seems like some of the brokers with excellent features such as GFT, or HotSpot, have large min. account requirements.
I am going to continue to use the CMS trading systems to assist with timing
my entries, but use a new broker to place my orders with. This is a bitch however because I became familiar with how to use the CMS platform, and
now I have to learn another one.

From what I've read most of the people like the software VT trader but are having issues with CMS. They are two different entities. Here's a quote from the administrator on the TV forum

I have spoken to Chris on other occasions, and he has always responded. I left a message for him to see if he will give me information on other brokers, who currently use VT trader. I know FXAsia used to, but I believe they were bought out, and I cannot find them anymore

I have my account with GFT. Used their Dealbook platform and now know it real well. I've previously used Metastock/and Ensign with an Esignal feed. I love these guys (so far)and the platform. Have used their demo for 3 months now and trading live now. No difference that i can detect. I love the fact that my positions are fully integrated on my charts. Always wanted that before.

These guys are a preferred broker here, they require $2500 to start, so that might be the issue. I looked around and didn't find any complete and integrated charting/trading platform that worked any better.

Take a test on their demo....pretty cool.

Well got a response from Chris. And unfortunately he cannot,divulged this information due to rules and regulations. So I guess it up to us to find who's got the platform.

I Did a bit more searching and found FXAsia from what I've read on other forums. People using them say that even their demo did not go down during violent times. If you would like to look them up there at FXASEC.com although I could not tell you how to even begin to download their version.

Thanx Claude, Chris is a real stand up guy and would tell you more if he could. We will all have to dig in and do some more research.

Been experiencing disconnect problems with demo account today. I know that this reportedly can happen on the Demo server. Was also getting other error messages trying to log back in. 'Connection not available, try back later' and 'Charting server unavailable, do you want to continue without it'. This prompted a call to the tech support people. How can I say this nicely.... They read me what sounded like a preprinted explanation stating the problems on 01/06 "were due to higher than normal internet activity" and denied that there were any issues today. The individuals had less than stellar personalities and were in no hurry to be of any help. I explained I was aware of the recent problems on the live server and was wondering if they were doing anything to adress the issue. Again, what seemed to be a preprinted response that was read to me "I am being told that our technical support people are working on it, but it may be something beyond our control". I told him that was very comforting to all those with live accounts and that I would keep that it mind when I select a broker. He promptly ended our conversation. I must say I called them once before with a question when setting up the demo. I was treated to the same horrible customer service then too.

Like many others I love the VTtrader platform but I am less than impressed with CMS. If you can't get help or depend on your broker you are dead in the water. I'll be watching to see what all of you with live accounts do.

I checked them out. Low spread (e.g. EURUSD 2 pips), but I have the impression that this company is only in business for a couple of months (correct me if I am wrong).

Beware of chapter 8 of their Agreement:

BTW, really love your style of writing, MrWhipple. It took a while to get accustomed to your special brand of humor, but after reading the Mr Phil story at your homepage, I got hooked (if that is the right expression, but anyway, I am sure you will come up with some long forgotten, obscure lemma from your Gaylords Unabridged Dictionary of Modern Slang, written by Gaylord et alii, to demonstrate the opposite).

I emailed my account rep over there asking what happened. I will post my response once I get one.

Methinks they have been up and going since September 2005.

Also note that I couldn't find anywhere on their web page that they were acredeted with any USA type like NFA or CFTC just with the Swiss. Please remember folks this is still the Wild West out there. A lot of it is UNregulated!
