Application Development - Journal of Building an equity millipede

Hi traders,

This thread is exclusively made for developing journal management application for the "Building an equity millipede" method given to us by "Greame" wandering FF with username "pipEASY".

As this thread is exclusively for application development, please talk only about the application. Big no to strategies, trading techniques, trade management and all other stuffs. Please dont divert the major theme of this thread.

Building an equity millepede-Journal management

This is web based java application which allows you to keep track of all your open trades, close trades, profits in term of pips, grouping legs, and many other functionalities you needed for this system.

Who need this application?

If you are a person, who really believe that "greame's method definitely work" and if you are trading this method with that confidence, imo you will end up with huge no. of open positions at the end of 1 year from the date you start trading this method.
If you are such a trader and if you are trading this system for long time, you are welcome to share your experince with your own journal management system and share pros and cons in your system which will be helpful in developing the application.

When will this application is launched in www?

Am so new to this method and am trying this method only for the past 2 weeks. So i actually don't know how much this app wiil be useful.
As i didn't start working with this application, traders with more experience with this system, please give me the suggestion whether this application will be really helpful or not.
Only when i get enough response from experienced traders i will start with the application.
I will publish the version 1.0 of this application within a week i started coding.

Functionalities:(This part will be updated and updated and updated as the application grows)

Did you find a way to save MT4 trade history to CSV file?

Am not so good at mt4 backend.
I was searching for the method to fetch data from mt4 terminal.
If you know any method to do that, please PM me.

But for this project its good if we manually give inputs. So that we will have the feel of maintaining a journal.
Am also planned to provide the user an option to enter the reason why he/she entered the trade.
So he/she can easily track the mistakes he did if the trader look at the journal later. For these purposes it should be in a manual mode.

What you guys are thinking out there. Comments are always welcome

How would this be different from something like Track On Trade?

I think the same. Manually entering the trades into the journal will make your life as programmer easier and allow users from different trading platforms to use your software.

Myself I was planning to use Evernote for recording my trades on the go, and then using a spreadsheet software for the calculations. Perhaps is not the best option out there but I has great flexibility. Evernote's feature of adding tags I think comes handy when moving trades form one group to another during diversification.

As you suggested the option of adding the reason for entering the trade is really important. May I suggest that a combo box is presented to the user to select from different entry methods (FB, breakout, user's setting) or free text. Some of the trade stats could be imported/copied later from FF trade explorer.

Good question. But answer is in first post.
This is specific to the method given by greame.
It will have functionalities specific to this method.

Also this is not a commercial application.
It will not have attractive web pages.
This is a simple application. please dont expect more, you wont get it.

I think this will be a cool effort. I am sure you would have already thought about what I am writing here. Still let me jot it down for whatever its worth.

We need the ability to move a trade from group x to group y by drag drop if possible

links to images (screen shots) for trade open and trade close

Net pip gain / loss for a group

So, essentially a group entity will have a name, description, date created, counter for total trades in the group and the counter for net pips earned/lost

Perhaps double click on a group can lead to the list of trades under it which can be grouped buy / sell and then currencies

Each trade line will have date created, buy sell, currency, price, group name, and a notes field to say what PA condition prompted them to take the trade, lot size, initial SL and the links to screens shots while trade was initiated, etc.,

Looks like i am writing a functional specs. here. Let me stop.

Where does the EA take profit, and what are the results that the EA is producing?

Personally, I don't trade the round numbers approach. Bit too random for me with some pretty hefty stop losses.

I've started my own thread trading the Flying Buddha technique that Greame talked about extensively. It's not automated yet but I definitely think it has legs..
