Hello,

Hello everyone. I am a firm believer in the KISS (keep it simple stupid ;-) principle.

Along those lines, I have been working on a stop and reverse strategy that using a single moving average on the 10 minute chart during ce. Last month I had pretty good results with it (as can be seen in the graphic below.

The rules are seen in the image. Let me know what you think. Also, does anyone know of a platform (other then Tradestation since I don't have $5,000 to open an account) that has the capability to alert me based on an indicator's position. For example, as you can see below, one of the rules to open a trade is that the moving average changes directions by 5 pips. Unfortunately, my strategy often triggers when I'm asleep. If my computer could beep really loud, it would wake me up and I'd place the trade.

Thank you all for your wonderfull work! I love FF.

Agent 2005

P.S. In the image lines have been cropped short they read:

Change of direction is defined as a retracement in any direction 5 pips
Trade is triggered when there is a change of direction within a certain time.

Thank you for sharing.

Is that the only system you use? If not, are there any other KISS method you could share with us?

Thanks and I personally appreciate your posting

Hey Dialist,

I'm sorry, CE doesn't mean a thing. I meant to say during a certain time. I was, as usual, probably typing way to fast.

While this looks nice on paper, unless someone can reccommend some platform that will wake me up to trade, it will unfortunately remain ... on paper untill I can save $5000 to trade on Tradestation. :-(

Regards,
Agent2005

Thanks Agent! Yeah, my fingers and brain get out of sync too!

I've got an MQL indicator for MetaTrader that someone else wrote for me that makes a noise when the indicator crosses a certain level. I know of two metatrader programmers on this forum that might chime in here to help you out. I wont say who they are 'cause I don't know one of them very well, and the other wants to maintain their anonymity. Search for a metaquotes forum as a start. Or, you could do what I'm doing and start learning to program metatrader yourself! It's not that hard! (at least that's what I keep telling myself )

Well, yes and no. Basically what happened was, I started DEMO trading and I had probably 5-8 indicators on the screen at any one time. I would trade 5-15 minute charts. There is a saying, "A man who has a watch knows what time it is. If he has two, he can never be sure" (or something like that :-). I had 5-8 "watches".

Anyway, after blowing several Demo accounts, I decided to start from scratch and learn what made each indicator tick. See what would happen is, every time I'd have a losing day, I'd adjust my technique. The problem was, adjusting my strategy every day with 8 INDICATORS meant I didn't see the big picture (in my opinion). So I started with just the moving average and Parabolic Sars And I looked over a month's worth of data and asked my self how did this indicator work all month?

You have already seen my conclusion about trading the moving average (though I wish I could back test it ... Tradestation is my dream).

Attached is a shorter term strategy I came up with for the Parabolic SARS on the 5 minute chart. It doesn't seem to be quite as robust as the moving average one, but it might trigger a thought in someone's mind. The basic idea is that the SARS seems 50% reliable during the New York session untill only about 11 am or 12 am depending on which SAR you use (see spreadsheet). The wins, so far, are greater then the loss. I have more hope in the moving average one since it seems like it would be so easy to automate. Tradestation should do automated Forex in the first quarter next year (or so I'm told by there sales rep .... for what ever that is worth).

Well so long.

The 5 pips reversal in the MA is what defines a change in direction (i.e. long or short). What triggers the trade is if the 5 pip reversal occurs DURING A SPECIFIC TIME PERIOD rather then a specific amount of time.

Perhaps my pictures will illustrate what I mean.

By the way, after posting and saying the day illustrated would have netted a loss, I realized I had selected the wrong graphic. The graphic I chose was actually of a 25 period simple MA and actually resulted in a gain for the day of 39 pips (spread already taken out)

um.. ok
i had a min so i whipped this up.... its not exactly what u are looking for, but maybe close (?) anyways its the best i can do with time and info available.. maybe u can modify it to more precisly fit ur needs

mt4 has only 5 and 15 min charts (i think there is no 10min).. so i doubled ur 30 sma to use on 5 min chart (60sma).. next i set alert to ding when price crosses sma.. next i make it so it dings again (different sound) when the price travels about 5-7 pips away from the sma.. either can be turned on/off in the parameters box which opens when indicator is loaded

i thouht this would at least alert u when conditions are similar to what you discribed, (as a cross must occur before the sma value will change by 5 pip) like an early warning.. anyways maybe u or somebody with more time can make it to better fit ur needs..

rgds...

oh ya.. ps didnt test it... but i think it works

Agent2005,

With regards to charts that give you audible alerts etc, you may want to look at XTick. They have a monthly fee (it was $85 last time I used them) but it may be worth your while. The alert set up is quite versatile where you can colour code your chart etc. It is quite a nifty package if you are prepared to pay for it. You can demo one pair (CHF at the moment) for free, so that will give you a good idea if this is for you or not. Cheers.

Hi dsvt1,
Why did you delete the MQL you had attached to your post. I didn't download it yet, and I'd really like to see what you did if that's OK.

Thanks

Hey Buff,

I dowloaded their platform, and checked out their alerts function. Unfortunately, as far I could tell, they only have:

> Price
>= Price
< Price
<= Price

I do appreciate your input though. I fear that Dialist is right, I may have to learn the coding language.

Here are three resources I've found useful.

First is a guy on another forum who has been posting MQL lessons and you can post questions back to him. Here's the link to the first lesson:

http://www.forex-tsd.com/showthread.php?t=134

Also, I've read that MQL is very closely related to the C programming language. Perhaps dsvt1 will deny/confirm this. If true, then here's a link to a nice C tutorial.

http://cplus.about.com/od/beginnerct...1/l/blctut.htm

Thirdly, I've attached the MQL tutorial from the MetaQuotes website. It is a CHM help file. Just unzip the file to your desktop and open it.

Don't be overwhelmed. If you'll learn just a little every day, you will eventually become good enough at MQL to make it do what you want.

Once you get into a bit, start studying the code that other people have written. The kiss.mql file that dsvt1 wrote for you is a good place to start.

Hope this helps.
