That was extremely interesting. I'm gonna have to ponder it for a few days though because it takes a while for some things to sink in properly with me.

My immediate thought though is that there is a lot of that rose tinted glass thing going on (that they mentioned) in this industry given the statistics.
Nothing worth having is easy.

I happen to agree, I do think though when you get to a certain stage with your trading it gets slightly boring, I know what I want to see, finding the right environment for a positive expectancy, most of the time it isn't there.

Its just a waiting game.....I once read "we get paid to wait", how true.

I find my average trades per month over the years are getting less and less
to achieve a better positive % annually....In fact if I take more than 7-8
trades a month I've been busy !

I think my unconscious plays a part, when I scan pairs looking for the right environment I almost do it on auto pilot, every now and then my conscious gets dragged into action when my unconscious recognises what I'm looking for.

Maybe I'm looking to much into it, trying to understand something complex, when really its easy right ?

Any-ways I thought it was an interesting view, so I posted....

Still looking, waiting for that perfect pad, got until July to find somewhere so no massive rush although I'm quite keen to gtfo of where I am right now. Housesitting a really nice place in Sydney in July for a month so if I haven't found a place here by then I might even consider living there although much more expensive. My friend lives there now and they are looking at getting their own apartment. For the price of a 2 bedroom unit there they could buy a massive house and a boat back home lol.

I'm up 6.11% for the year with FX, so I'm Reasonably happy.

I've Been looking into trading high liquid UK,US stocks for the long term , quite interested in spread betting them, just trying to work out the best cost effective way of doing that.....

I used to trade UK stocks when I started..... Another way to expand my basket.

Sounds like good reference points to confirm price action from. But what is your edge? Why does it work?

Personally I don't set target profits I let the market decide when it's time to exit or add.

But the other day I thought of an idea which would be cool to test that is summarizing a large data set of your trades.

You basically need 3 things:

1) A consistent entry point
2) A consistent method of going to break even (or trade management)
3) A consistent stop placement technique

From a large number of trades you determine two things...

1) The maximum paper gain your trade made before it was closed and
2) The maximum paper loss your trade made before it was closed.

From these two lines which could be plotted on an equity curve graph you find the relationship in the slope of the average risk (2) and average reward (1) and use these as a guideline to adjusting positions for the most probable and efficient outcome.

The slope of the risk reward line will change slowly over time as will your position sizes target points and stop positions. I guess your original stop placement technique is no longer a place to put your SL but simply a reference point at which to measure the average risk from.

hm... food for thought.

Hey Cindy,

I can see the angle your trying to achieve, I think you would need a good chunk of time to test, preferably using various market conditions that you have traded.
I like the idea to filter in new data from recent trades, help optimize current parameters.

talking of little fury things, A friend of mine has a nice new car.
A mouse has decided to make its home behind the dash board, its chewed through all the wire looms that are there costing him £5,600 in repairs so far ( ouch ) and is still in the car continuing to do damage.

Now I dont like to see animals harmed, but I can assure you should the little **cker get caught,
my friend isnt going to be finding him a new home .....

Yeah was just an idea, I needed to write it down before I goo and obsess over it and waste my time testing it.

Whats your thoughts on holding trades through the weekend ?, I dont normally, but this weekend I have.

I'm in front with a multiple R trade at the mo which looks like its still got "legs", so ive decided to leave it...
