Mobile broadband advice for trading away from home?

Anyone use a mobile broadband service to help you connect to the Internet away from home?

See I am away from home more than a usual person and lately I've been tethering off my jailbroken iPhone 4. I work as a home health aide so I work 12 hour shifts usually from 9a-9p and I trade the london session while I'm at my clients houses as long as they don't mind. Lately ive been looking into mobile broadband since the AT&T tethering is fairly slow. I get 1.5mbps without tethering. While tethering it drops to only about 100-200kbps which is bad since I get disconnected from my platform.

I was looking into the mifi hotspot devices but I'm not sure if 5gb a month will be enough for me. We don't have 4g in the area yet so I can't get around a bandwidth cap just yet.

I figure I will use the hotspot for trading purposes only during the London session which is about 12 hrs a week. Tue-thurs 9-12.

Would the 5g be enough to last me all month? If my bandwidth is running tight I can always tether off my iPhone. Especially if I decide to watch Netflix or stream music

Any advice is appreciated

I use Sprint WiMAX 4G (unlimited) almost exclusively these days.

I've taken my trading and web surfing mobile with the use of my notebook and my Android phone.

I use to have DSL connected to dual monitor setup but felt, it wasn't my way of trading. I don't need dual monitors, 32Gig RAM, etc machines.

All I need is, my notebook to execute pending order, price charts through ProRealTime, read news releases, post on Twitter/Stocktwits/ForexFactory etc.

I use my Android mobile 3G (unlimited) quite a bit as well to execute pending orders, views charts mobile ProRealTime, post on Twitter and Stocktwits. In addition to using 3G, my Android phone also allows me to use WiFi. So, if I'm sitting at cafe or restaurant with free WiFi, I'll usually connect as I found WiFi to be faster than 3G.

Since I'm not a Intraday trader, I find my current setup perfect for my needs.

If you're an Intraday trader, I would really advice against getting any caps against your mobile broadband use. Look for uncapped/unlimited 3G or 4G connection. Trust me, that 5gig bandwidth cap per month is nothing to an Intraday trader. You'll run through that in no time.

BTW, I always watch Netflix/Youtube/Hulu videos on my 4G connection. This is part of the reason to look into obtaining a cap-free mobile internet. You'll want to do more than just trade and web surf.

Hi, I am in the UK so this may not be much use to you but I trade using a small laptop computer and dongle. I'm not sure if you have this where you are but it is basically a small dedicated modem with a normal phone sim card in it. It connects by USB into the pc and gives me a connection. I can't make calls with it, just use it to connect to the internet.

The point of me posting this is to point out that this connection is way faster than when I used to connect to the internet using a mobile phone and use internet connection sharing via usb to the laptop from the phone. It seems the phone slows the connection down or the hardware of what I use now is better, one or the other.

Yeah that's what I'm aiming for. But all the carriers don't offer unlimited 3G services for mifi devices. They do offer unlimited 4g with a 5gb 3G fallback. But my area (2 hrs north of NYC) doesn't have 4g yet and I'm not sure when were getting it. I guess I'll have to check in to the local sprint and verizon stores

I was thinking of going to sprint and picking up a phone with data plan and see if I can tether for free with it since the sprint wireless network is faster than AT&T at the moment
