Sprint/Nextel - Verizon wireless broadband service

Does anyone use Sprint/Nextel or a Verizon broadband wireless PC card with their laptop for an 'on the go' connecttion with MT4? Where work, I can use the internet during 'personal time' but online trading with 'their' computers is a no no. I've done it from time to time but I get a little paranoid each time. Not sure what the connection to MT4 looks like to big brother but I'm sure it's leaving a footprint somewhere. Anyway, I figure if someone can take a smoke break or a quick walk or two during the day I can spend all of 20 minutes or so trading at work if I use my own computer and connection. Get my drift? I look at longer term, 1hr and 4hr charts so there is minimal screen time anyway. I know there are some of you that use handheld devices but I'd rather not have to buy another gadget...Any thoughts?

i just got a verizon broadband pc card about 2 weeks ago and it works great!... i can be in the car, on the train or anywhere except a tunnel & i am connected...

i considered the pda before getting the card, but i wasnt crazy about it because of the space limitations & the inability to load my custom indicators (I use mt4 too & they only allow their standard indicators to be loaded on the pda devices)

so far i am quite happy with my choice!.. i chose verizon because it will automatically switch from digital to analog as needed whereas the others are digital only... plus i have verizon for my cell phone so they knock $20 off the monthly rate...

so far it hasnt had to switch to analog mode... but i was told that if it did, it would be equivalent to a dial up connection...

Thanks Marie. I'm in northwest Florida and the Verizon coverage map looks a little thin. I'm wondering if it switched between analog and digital what the delay would be between modes. The laptop, for the most part would be sitting on my desk so I'm thinking the signal wouldn't change. Yes, I agree with being able to use custom indicators on the laptop and more screen area as well.

As far as being mobile with MT4, you just start it up like you are at home correct? You don't need to be running Explorer or Firefox to have a connection, correct? Just click on you MT4 icon and you're 'there', right?

palmer... yes thats correct... 1st i click on the "connect" button that pops up which connects me to verizon & then just click on the mt4 icon and its up & running.. no need to have internet explorer or anything else running...

I used verizon wireless for about a year as my sole internet connection. for the most part it worked ok. up to the point they cancelled my account.they claimed I was using 80 times the average bandwith. so much for their,unlimited usage policy.

did you hit them with a $175 cancellation fee? lol

cingular/att has a wireless broadband connection........its not bad
if you are connected to cingular's 3G network you can get up to 1.5mb if not (it falls back to edge network if there is no 3g coverage) speed will average at 200kbps.

if you just use it for mt4 get a windows smartphone, way more convenient.

you should be ok if you use some moderation I ran it six days a week twenty four hours a day I had several charting applications running. broker platforms email ect. the only time it was off is when I got dropped which was often.

I have had a sprint wireless broadband card for about 4 months. It has only worked on broadband speeds for half the time(2months). It worked great at first, but after a month it stopped working on anything but roam speed at my house(Roaming speed is like the first dial-up speeds). I would drive in any direction for 5 miles and it would work fine.

It took me weeks to convince the technical people at sprint that it was not my computer. They will go on and on about how it is probably a firewall or some problem with your hardware. I almost bought a new laptop because they almost convinced me it was something on my end! It turns out the whole time it was the sprint tower. I finally got some techie at sprint to say that it was a problem with the tower. I wish they just would have admitted it from the beggining. Something about that maybe somebody in my area was using alot of bandwidth and they needed to boost the towers output to stay abreast of demand.

After everything with sprint, I do not see how I could live without it. My trading has gotten better, mainly watching stops and breakouts etc.. It is so easy to have a laptop near buy- just to keep a watch out. It is sometimes so surreal because many of my best trades always seem to come sitting on the toliet, be carefull running back to your main computer! I think the problem with the tower and the idiot sprint technical department is something you are going to have to put up with while the technology improves. Nothing is perfect- just do not believe everything the techies say!
