Automating trades

I've quite recently come across the forex market, so I am an absolute beginner. I know the basics, but I'm not very good in practice.

I'm a computer engineer, so I'm trying to set up a software application that trades automatically for me 24/7. I think the best way for me is to take advantage of my computing experience to make profit.

But while I'm ready for development of the platform, I completely lack the knowledge about the forex market trading strategies. And that's what I 'm asking for here: what strategies could I test to get started? Can someone point out how could I do to retrieve automatic buy/sell signals? Any suggestions are welcome.

Furthermore, I would really appreciate if someone could direct me to sources of information on this kind of auto trading methods and algorithms, forex-applied artificial intelligence, etc.

I'm open to all kind of suggestions on how to proceed.

This is a very good place to start indeed. However, I'm not trying to be an expert trader (yet). What I'm asking for is a set of strategies, somewhere to find a strategies listing that can be poured into a piece of software for automated trading.

Alternatively, it would be nice to have a mentor that could point out a good deal of strategies that I can use in the software I want to develop.

So, my first aim is not becoming a good trader, but to make a good automated trading software. The idea is to make software that accepts user-defined text scripts defining strategies, like Tradestation does, but obviously much much simpler. I'd go for a very simple language with a set of keywords which can be enough for the most strategies, so before defining this language I also need the strategies listing/database and/or the mentor so that I figure out.

Well start with Metatrader, that has built in languages that you can use to program and automate trades.

Aye the MT4 platform is your best bet. Tons of stuff out for that one and you'll likely to get more help using something more mainstream. I know I'll be of no help, lol I'm trying to learn to program my own scripts but still a long way off. Can't say I'm a huge fan of fully automated systems you tend too miss out on to much of what's going on in the market. But I'm all for automating it after I've done my projections.
