G'Day,

Wondering if anyone else has this problem? Or can suggest a solution.

I am trying to backtest some EA's in MT4 but have found holes in my MT4 data.

I have deleted all the files in the history folder (MT4\history\downloads) and in the MT4\history\GoMarkets-Demo folder and then reloaded again from the History Center but I still get the same holes.

I'm with Go Australia (though they say the data comes from the Metatrader servers).

So far I have identified Sep08 to Dec 08, apart from a few days as being missing for AUDJPY and Mar 13 to Mar 25 2010 for EURUSD.

Thanks for any help.

We all have similar problems - just the details are different with different brokers. This is the first time I have heard of a significant gap with Metatrader history data, but that just seems to be the nature of this business.

One broker (Dukascopy?) allows historical downloads, but I think its for each month so it can be tedious.

Thanks,

I can't believe that they can't provide proper history. They don't even seem to want to sell it as a service.

I get history from Gain archive (Rategain.com I think), pull into Ninja trader and then move to Metatrader. Quite a bit of manual labor, but it works.
ps: Also, ninja trader servers are secondary backup for backfills.

Ignored

There are "for fee" providers but I believe its by subscription not one time and very pricey. Not meant for small guys like us. I suspect acquiring and properly maintaining this data would be a challenge.

if you download data in history center, its from metaquotes instead of your broker

delete the data, open a chart, and hold down the home key
or drag the chart with your mouse

that will dl the data from your broker, i have ibfx live, i have no data missing

demo is bad for that

Im also with ibfx.

You can keep dragging, but ibfx keeps only 65000 candles.

That means, if you dont have data for, say eurusd m1 June 2010 (which actually now is also 'missing' in metaquotes), you can never get such data, as it is past 65000 candles from now.

This is my problem now, and probably thousands of us small traders who depend on the 'free' metaquotes download data, because our VERY NICE brokers, dont supply us with GOOD COMPLETE DEPENDABLE data, that we have to go with FREE NON-BINDING metaquotes data.

I tried contacting metaquotes russia as it is the technical side, but the phone is not contactable. Of course, their data feed is free, so we have no right to demand. I just want to feedback to them about the missing dates.

Maybe a miracle is what we need.

Very old thread, but this was the first thing that popped up on google for me. So I thought I would share this.

"Removing gaps in MT4 historical data
Posted by Sam Medwin, Last modified by Sam Medwin on 23 March 2017 07:06 PM
Occasionally there are gaps in MT4 historical data. This happens because the chart is not uploading correctly.
If these gaps occur within the past few months, it is possible to retrieve the missing data by refreshing the chart.
You can do this as follows (please note that the below is an example, your data will be different):

  1. Go to the price gap in your history center and mark a few of the last entries before the gap.
  2. Delete about ten entries and close the history center.
  3. Then right click in the EUR USD chart and select “Refresh”.
  4. Now check on your chart to see if the missing price data is now appearing. It might not work the first time, it is possible that you have to refresh the chart up to three or four times before the gaps disappear.
  5. Once the data is visible in the chart, you should also be able to see it in the history center.

Also try increasing the volume of data in the History Center in your platform. To do that follow the steps described below:

  1. Increase the quantity of bars in MetaTrader 4 settings to the maximum (MT4 / Tools / Options / Charts / Max bars in history).
  2. Go to the History Center in MetaTrader 4 (MT4 / Tools / History Center).
  3. Choose the time-frame of the necessary instrument you are interested in (double click for example on ALV.DE/1 min) and press Download.
  4. Don't forget to close and re-open the platform and refresh the charts."

just came across this thread and I have been having the same problem. MT4 ..if you open TOOLS … HISTORY CENTRE... find the pair you want with the timeframe you want, highlight that timeframe then click download in the bottom left corner a green downloading bar will appear. I was missing almost 5 years of data and this has restored it for me

THANK YOU COGSx86!

That information easily fixes any missing data problems that I have in MT4. It may be from an old post, but it still works great!

Tell me this, experts, what is the difference in the data files when you go to =

Files : Open Data Folder : history : broker name-Live

Or go to the History Center? Are they the same files? Is that where the History Center downloads to? Write over the existing files?

Because they give warning about downloading using History Center as it cannot be used for disputes

Kind of ironic because the reason you are downloading is the data is MISSING, nothing to show for a dispute!

Had this problem with 4 Hour chart, History filled in the gap, tried al the usual things, Refresh, Home key, but would not fill from broker data

Compared the same times with a demo account, see pictures, every other time frame was fine, crazy, you would think the prices are there, why can't 4 Hour read it?
