Sh1t just got real

Studding forex so intensively have changed a few aspects of my life.

 

1. I would not trade solo for any money in the world like so many people dream of here. Its so damn un-social and unproductive staring at those charts all day, all alone. Thats, of course, is a personal matter.

 

1. Life if mostly about probabilities and taking chances. Trading have strengthen my believe even more.

 

1. There is no short-cut to success. Not even forex trading . Decide if you have enough time to find out if you have a talent or not for trading. I've always liked the quote; a winner never quits and a quitter never wins BUT that goes only if you have found what you really burn for and hopefully you have a talent for it too.

I saw your post and want to take a minute to respond to you.

One of my favorite authors has said "that there is nothing like the markets to expose a man's vanities" Consider how quickly a man may find out that he is a gambler, or emotional, ect in comparison to other vocations, so at the very least there is tremendous potential for personal growth in trading.

A fully developed trader in the purest sense could be given nothing and trade it into something in any envoirment.

I know a man who found himself homeless with 200 usd.
What did he do? He took 100 dollars to the local swap meet and purchased items. He lived in his station wagon for a week. Returning to the swap meet the following week he sold the same items for about 200 usd. He repeated this until he had a small store in Portland, Oregon.

Fx is just a Market, your qoal should be to become a trader.

There was a long period in my life that I did not trade in the futures or fx markets, The S&P 500 had been "split" and it changed all the dynamics of that market.

During that period I built a small business. I thought that maybe I had wasted my time trading.

Over time I realized that trading had changed me. I found myself making business decisions based on risk/reward, and the money management principles that I had learned while studying the markets. I have successful friends that thank me for the advice I gave them years ago. The advice I gave them was based on principles I had learned in the markets.

I have learned many hard lessons about myself trading and have had to change much of my behavior. Looking back I can honestly tell you that had I worked on myself first, I would have had a quicker path to making money as a trader.

Although I am not a profitable FX trader, Ill echo dale's thoughts on trading.

The markets have made me respect and understand the amount of effort that is essential to progressing In anything. To do anything well requires a great amount of dedication. The markets have also helped me to understand how important an education is, yet so many people fight it and think they can do without, quite like I did.

Without Forex and probably this forum I would be clueless to what I wanted to do with my life. Thanks to these two things I know what I have a passion for and I can still follow it even If trading my own account doesnt work out for me.

- i learned that you can't realy tell what the market is going to do next. I am applying this principle in my every day life.
- that circumstances do not define a man, but it's the other way around.

To me, it's been about self-discovery and once I got to know myself better, to push the envelope of what's possible.

What S/L I can handle, not just from a money management standpoint but from a psychological one.

What my strengths/weaknesses are. Case in point, I still suck at timing. But I got pretty good at finding out the direction. So I get in a position, I'm in the red for a bit before it goes my way.

So I discovered that, I found ways to cope with it and been a better trader.

On a bigger scale, it's changing me as a person. Not to succumb to peer pressure for example (if everybody is short, maybe I should short too). It's changed my attitude which made me a better person overall.

Spot on Jay. It's done the same for me. I would be nowhere near the person I try to be today if I weren't to have found this business. I've learned so much about myself, it's unreal. I've found my weaknesses and turned them into strengths, found my strengths and made them stronger, and am always still learning so much. I'd be a lot more "lost" today than I am if I weren't a trader. That, to me, is the best part about trading- the fact that you HAVE to learn about yourself if you want to succeed long term in this business. It's amazing.

To never let your dreams get in the way of caring for the people that you love. While you may achieve the dream, there isn't much to enjoy when you have no one to share it with.

Ed Seykota did a return of 250,000 % in 16 years , making a few hundred dollars into millions with his own account.

Not sure yet how FX will change it. Right now it hasn't changed it all that much, although i learned that determination is needed to succeed at anything.

In two years i'll be back to post changes. I'll bump it (hopefully, but unlikely ) in 17th December 2011.

I've learned a lot about myself when I started out and am learning more about me everyday.
But I think the number one thing that has been a positive influence on my life is that I have learned to break down bigger problems into bite sized chunks.
Like leaning the markets, just break it down into individual questions and spend a good amount of time on it until I understand.
Trading has also helped me get organized.

it made me realize that making money from outside of 9 2 5 is possible and to a certain extent can relieve you from depending heavily on 9 2 5.

...& hopefully eventually get u off of your job & do business (trading etc.) full time.

It has made me a much deeper thinker for better or worse.
