Hi, does anyone know of any brokers who offer a version of Metatrader that doesn't expire?

I use spreadbetting firms rather than trading via brokers, and I can understand why brokers wouldn't want to offer an unlimited demo as they get no income from it, but are there any brokers out there offering a demo which doesn't expire?

Thanks
Andy

Looks to me like they are all non-expiring. The account might expire, but you can create a new one in a few minutes and you are running again.

I don't think that's the case. I have used 4 MT4 accounts from different brokers and they have all expired. When I have downloaded a new demo from the same broker, it recognises the previous settings and MT4 opens but with a "No Connection" message in the bottom right hand corner of the application.

Maybe there's a way I could disable the information being sent to the broker when I download the demo, but I'm not techie enough to know how to do that!

www.fxpro.com

Never expires period, and they have a good price feed. Plus every currency pair you can imagine, as well as gold, silver, indexes, some individual stocks, etc. I don't recommend them as a live broker, but for demo you can't beat it.

You might also just try going to File>>Open an Account, and it should open a new demo for you; you shouldn't still get the "no connection" message then; no need to download a whole new MT4. You could technically have an unlimted number of demo accounts all on the same MT4 platform.

That doesn't work for me either. I have a "No Connection" message on my MIG MT4, when I do as you suggested it goes part of the way to creating a new account but the "Finish" button on the final screen is disabled so it doesn't create the account, I just get stuck with the original account, which of course is not connected!

Andy B,
i have Mig as 1 of m demo's. It's working fine.

Try this:
go to Tools>Options> server tab. then try to choose another server available in the list.

OR

u may occasionally get the "No Connection" message. this DOES happen. if u do encounter this, just re-try opening an account (just do the same procedure as u do)

it goes part of the way to creating a new account but the "Finish" button on the final screen is disabled so it doesn't create the account
in this case, Hit the BACK button, then hit again the NEXT button

Try these first...

------
Some/most MT4s do not expire if u place at least 1 trade every 15 or 30days. if a demo does expire, just re-open another account.

Thanks for the suggestions, none of these seem to work for me either

Could the problem be that I have a MIG account running from a home PC and I'm trying to get another one on my work PC?

This is getting very frustrating!

I used Alpari UK both at work and at home, and used both regularly, but both expired, maybe I'm jinxed!

still not working? do u have ANY working MT4 now in your pc?

left-click on the bars (w/c look like to inverted triangles on top of each other) beside the "No Connection" message in the bottom right hand corner of the application. after left-click, try to change/choose another server.

OR

try deleting the expired MT4 in your control panel. then try reinstalling it via download from the broker's website.

get back to us after doing these..

So did you try fxpro per my post above? Like I said, they can't be beat for a demo, and it never expires. When I traded through a large Currenex broker, I used fxpro for my charts, and pricing was almost identical to Currenex, which is a true interbank environment.

Again, don't recommend for a live account but you can't go wrong with the demo.

TC East,
what about FXPro's volume compared with Currenex? i think some have say ibfx & fxcm are better than fxpro when comparing volume between these feeds. can u confirm this? thanks

I presume you want volume info to predict short term price direction, but no broker offers or can offer volume info on anything other than their own internal orders at their specific brokerage. So in essense, the volume numbers you see don't mean anything, as they don't reflect everything else that's happening in the global interbank market.

I'm not sure if you've been trading forex for a while or are new, but no one has true volume info in forex, unlike what you can get with futures, stocks, etc. Stocks and futures have exchanges to report volumes on those exchanges; forex doesn't have that. So for example, if a trader at Goldman Sachs has placed a pending order to buy 500 million EU, you're not going to ever know about it or have any indication of it until it happens.

But what I can say from experience is that the fxpro price quotes are very close to the Currenex quotes I had, as opposed to being 3-4 pips off like I originally expected. For me that was important because I wanted to have charting that accurately reflected true interbank pricing (like Currenex), and fxpro was the closest I found with a free demo.

I hope that helps...

My friend, I'm sorry but Fxpro's demo does not expire. I've had a demo for over a year and a half. Just to be sure, I checked their website:

https://www.fxpro.com/practiceaccount

Check lower right part of page where it says
"The free Practice Account has an unlimited timeframe, allowing you to watch and evaluate long-term strategies."

It sounds like you're having some issue on your end, but I'm not sure what it could be. Maybe completely uninstall all MT4 downloads from your computer, then re-download fxpro. I guess be sure all normal stuff is updated, like java for example. Also, instead of registering/re-scanning a server, just go to "Login" and enter your demo account number and demo password, (if you have them) and choose a server from the dropdown list. That should be enough.

Barring that, maybe try fxpro's online chat and ask for help...

Thanks TC, I'll give FXPro another go, I've definitely had problems in the past with it, maybe it's time for a new PC!

Cheers

TC East,
this did help. thanks for the info.

Andy B,
have u tried deleting all your MT4's (from the Control panel) & re-installing? Getting a new PC for this minor problem is too much, but i think it can "help"
