Analyzing Trading Charts with AI

Totally agree, AI is getting interesting but it’s really about how you use it. I had the same experience at first—felt clumsy until I learned how to phrase prompts around my setups. Now it’s like a second pair of eyes, especially when checking multiple charts. It’s definitely a tool, not a replacement, but it can save a ton of time and help spot things you might miss.

I’ve been pretty busy lately, so I haven’t posted for a while. That said, I’ve been thinking maybe I should be more active again so more people who use AI for trading can share their experiences, tools, workflows, etc.

In the meantime, I’m constantly using AI and AI tools as assistants. One thing I’ve been using more recently is Google NotebookLM. For example, if you want to understand a strategy explained in a YouTube video, you can simply give it the video link and it will summarize the strategy for you.

Another interesting tool I found that’s related to the same idea is AstraCharts AI. It’s a free Google Chrome extension that does something similar, but goes a step further. It not only extracts the strategy from a YouTube video, it also creates a strategy based on it and analyzes charts using that strategy.
Of course, it can’t give you exact levels at first since it’s analyzing chart images, but it does give a solid general idea. What I found interesting is that if you provide OHLC data in follow-up questions, it can then give you accurate levels. We already talked in previous posts about how to get OHLC data.

Curious to hear if anyone else here is using similar AI tools in their trading workflow.

AI can help analyze trading charts but it cannot replace human judgment. Its value comes from using clear prompts and real market data so it can highlight trends, support and resistance levels, and potential setups. Screenshots alone work to a degree, but feeding OHLC data makes the analysis much more accurate. You should consider AI as an assistant that speeds up your work and gives another perspective, while you remain in control of the decisions.

Can somebody show how he analyzes charts with AI and what actions AI recommends to take ?
Lets take gold chart for example.

First thing you need to do is define your strategy for the AI. If you already have a custom strategy, you should explain it clearly. If you’re using a well-known framework (ICT, SMC, Market Profile, etc.), most AIs can already work with that.

For example, you can give ChatGPT a picture of a gold chart and ask it to analyze it based on ICT, SMC, Market Profile, or any other strategy you prefer.
For more accurate and detailed analysis, the best approach is to ask the AI to build a proper prompt for your strategy first.

You can ask something like:
“I want to analyze charts using {your strategy}. Give me a complete prompt that includes all concepts of the strategy, along with suggested TP, SL, and money management rules.”

After that:

1. Review the prompt
2. Add or remove anything you don’t like
3. Fine-tune it to match your trading style
4. Then, give ChatGPT (or any other AI) that finalized prompt, along with the chart image(s) you want analyzed.

You can even provide multiple images from different timeframes if you want a proper multi-timeframe analysis.
If you want more precise data, you can also use OHLC data, which I mentioned in post #10 of this topic.
Alternatively, as I mentioned in my previous post, you can use Astra Charts AI.
There, you can:

1. Write your strategy in simple English in the Custom Strategy section, or
2. Just say something like: “Create a full strategy based on {strategy name}”

It will generate a complete strategy for you. You can save it and apply it to any chart.
If you have a specific strategy in mind, let me know and we can:

1. Create a solid prompt for it
2. Analyze gold based on that strategy
