Hi All

I have decided to open this thread so if anyone has any questions about the back testing questions they can have them answered here as I under stand the insrtuctions are pretty long and may envoke some confusion in how to use the Spreadsheet so if you have any queries ask away...

Also the Spreadsheet and PDF instructions (you will need to read to set up the spreadsheet) is attached... If you don't know what I'm on about here this method is from the Trader101 thread.

The spreadsheet I've made here is just for back testing purposes.

This process may appear by it’s length to be confusing and time consuming but once you do it once you will be able to set up each week of your choosing for back testing the Trader101 system in just 10 minutes

NOTE One more thing be careful not to delete any of the formulas accidentally or the spreadsheet won’t function properly. If a cell has no formula in it then it is obviously safe to delete anything in the cell but otherwise be careful. If you mess up the spreadsheet you can always download it again or save a hardcopy for yourself.

1 – Download the spreadsheet Blueprint and save it in a place you will remember

2- Open the spreadsheet – There are 4 different sheets: Results, Chart, Data, and Import (small tabs at the bottom of the page) just click them to cycle through the different sheets.

Go to file and click “save as” “Week 15th September (for the example we are using below). This means you will always have a “blank” blueprint to test any new weeks you want. So any time you want to start a new test just open up the original “blueprint and “save as” the week you are going to back test.

The pairs you see in the Results tabs are the pairs for Interbank Fx users because that’s the Platform I use.

If you use different pairs just replace them in the FIRST (top) table of the Results sheet. So all your Sell pairs go in the red cells and all your Buy pairs go in the green cells.

So for example if you one of your SELL pairs is CAD/JPY just click on any of the RED cells and type CAD/JPY and press enter…. Easy.

(notice Above in the second “group” the CAD/JPY was automatically entered because I changed it in the first group)

So now our pairs are sorted we want to decide on which week we want to back test…..

One thing I forgot to add to the Instruction manual is if you are gonna use different timeframes other than the hourly closes you can just copy and paste the relevant times you are using into the "IMPORT" sheet from the History centre exports and it will automatically display the correct times next to each group on the RESULTS page.

So in the Import sheet the times in the left column are currently set to
00:00
01:00
02:00 etc.

You can change them to say for 15 min data
00:00
00:15
00:30 etc

Just copy the column of times you are using from the Export files you get from the MT4 history centre and paste them into the Import sheet of the Spreadsheet

NOTE: If you are putting a time into the "IMPORT" sheet and its not coming up in the results sheet then it means you are using the old version of the spreadsheet - Just download it again form the first page here - It was a glitch I just fixed

Hi Cindy - great spreadsheet! Just one thing. The formula's in column G are all set to long trading. Shouldn't the red pairs be set to short trading? Right now the way it is, it is as if we bought all the pairs.

Thank you - Brent

I'm importing the data from MT4, but my platform is 6 digits (i.e. 1.48505). The last digit of course is 1/10th of a pip. The true number is 1.4850.

Anyway, this throws off the values in the "results" sheet. How can I fix this?

I tried reformatting the numbers before I copy/paste to import sheet and although in the cell the reformat looks like it works, the actual number/value from the MT4 is still the number/value.
