I hear every now and again that there are almost no experienced traders among FF members. I was wondering if it's really correct. So please honestly select the group that you belong to.

BTW, by trading I mean trading (not investing in) forex, stock, bond, options, futures, and similar markets.

Seems like I am the one with most experience (I am VERY old....LOL)

That surprises me, I thought some of the bigger posters on this site would have had 10+ years experience (at least in stocks, bond, options, and`futures)

To me experience is when you start live trading. If you've not traded live you are just like a student. Being a student doesn't count toward experience. This is my opinion. Your's can be different.

Good Luck,
Al

I've received 46 responses to the poll so far. Now that the heat of NFP has almost winded down, it would be great if the rest of folks participate.

This is sort of an arbitrary question. A guy who spends 12 hours a day trading for 1 year has a hell of a lot more experience then the guy trading for 5 years but only 2 hours a day. I wouldn't put too much emphasis on this poll in determining the quality of FF's members...

Maybe on shorter timeframes, but if someone was trading higher timeframes like 4hrs and daily, then 2hrs of screen time/day would be sufficient. Dont you think? Also I think the more years you have the better because you will have traded more news events, trends....etc

I have been trading live for only a few months now. So I might just be talking crap.

The experience is not equivalent to knowledge or success rate but it's a valuable parameter on its own.

My experience 4 month. I played a little on demo and probably because of unpatience I play only on real money. Honestly I lost $850, ever since. I might be lucky so far.

Money management is the best and probably only one thing I learn so far.
Olso for some strange reason all my loses was on GBP/USD only. I stay away from this currency now.

This forum is the best forum that I saw about Forex. I love to learn here. Too bad I had almost nothing to offer in return so far.

I started trading in 1988 with stocks and sotck options and inx options.
Back then I had a subscription to Valueline and Investors business daily.
Then in about 1992 I got a connection to DTN. It has been a great time. I started trading Forex 4 years ago this June. I can not imagine not trading something... It gets in your blood.

Anybody got any nice Tulips?

Andy,

Please stop live trading. You'll lose more. Please review your approach. Learn more. Trade demo and when you feel you are ready get back to the game.

Good Luck,
Al

Scott,

I couldn't agree more. Trading is like drug addiction. It's really hard to set it aside.

Good Luck and here is your tulip.

some people dont get any value out of demo trading. In actuallity demo trading can lead to many bad habits as well as the fact it doesn't have the pyschological aspects and the demo numbers and fills are different than live.

i do agree that money protection should be the first thing to worry about, it would be best to risk very little (less then 0.10%) until you can consistancly have profit every week for a few months.

imho demo accounts are just a way to pull people into the markets. you dont see free demo accounts for stocks or futures but people who trade them are still successful. demo accounts are just there to make you think its easy and to get you feeling the gabling excitement instead of focusing on a plan.

I am not a big fan of demo trading but it's a good way to forward test a system. On the other hand it's better than live trading and losing money. However, I quite agree with you that it's more of a marketing tool.
