ECB Monetary policy decisions
At today’s meeting, which was held in Tallinn, the Governing Council of the ECB decided that the interest rate on the main refinancing operations and the interest rates on the marginal lending facility and the deposit facility will remain unchanged at 0.00%, 0.25% and -0.40% respectively. The Governing Council expects the key ECB interest rates to remain at their present levels for an extended period of time, and well past the horizon of the net asset purchases. European Central Bank leaves benchmark interest rate unchanged, as expected
The European Central Bank (ECB) left its benchmark interest rate unchanged on Thursday. This marks the fifth consecutive quarter that the central bank has held rates steady at 0.00 percent and will come as little surprise to market watchers, who were largely anticipating a continuation of the status quo. A slightly more dovish tone from ECB President Mario Draghi was, however, anticipated after reports leaked on Wednesday pointed to a possible shift in the bank's assessment of the economic prospects of the region.
