Kishida to urge LDP factions to forgo fundraisers amid scandal
Prime Minister Fumio Kishida plans to urge factions of Japan's ruling Liberal Democratic Party to refrain from holding fundraising parties in the wake of a political funds scandal, sources close to the matter said Wednesday. Prosecutors are investigating the largest faction of Kishida's LDP on suspicion that it pooled secret funds amounting to around 100 million yen ($679,000) to reimburse members who had exceeded their quotas for fundraising party ticket sales.
